Master/slave vs. cable select

Can someone please tell me the pros and cons of these two choices? I've always set my drives for master/slave, but I have a situation with my hard drives and it was suggested I set the drives to cable select.

Running WinXP on an Athlon system. All my hard drives are Maxtors, various sizes and speeds, and purchased at different times.

Thanks.

Don't bother with cable select. The only advantage is that you don't have to mess with jumpers when installing a drive. Since you have to mess with jumpers to set it to CS in the first place, I see no reason to do so. If it is fixing a problem you are suffering from, then stick with it. If not, master and slave work fine. Always put harddrives on master.
