Master/Slave --> two Masters

Hi all,

If I were to plug my second HD into a second IDE port and set both drives as masters, would windows still recognize my current partition system, folder permissions, etc?

Or do I have to tinker with things?

I think you'll end-up with differant drive letters assigned, but the partitions should be recognized fine. Not sure about permissions.

I believe the whole master/slave thing is just an IDE interface issue, so if you have both drives on seperate IDE interfaces then they would both be masters. Shouldn't be any impact on windows.

As long as the original drive is attached to the primary (first) IDE channel, then the
OS should see the difference between the two and will assign drive letters accordingly.

Windows should see it as:

Drive 0: Master on Channel 1

Drive 1: Slave on Channel 1

Drive 2: Master on Channel 2

Drive 3: Slave on Channel 2

It will try to assign drive letters accordingly, primary on masters first.
