Master/Slave problem...

At the moment i have my WD HDD as the master, with my CDR as the slave. well i want my HDD unshared but i'm having problems. i changed the jumpers and hooked em up to the seperate ide controllers, but the HDD is not being recognized. tired manually setting em up in the bios with no success. what am i missing? thx

It sounds as though your WD hard drive isn't jumpered properly. As I recall, (off the top of my head) remove all the jumpers for a standalone WD HDD.

Edit: As an afterthought, be sure to check your IDE cable. You wouldn't be the first guy here to inadvertently reverse the connection.

Before it was a "master" and your CDR was the "slave" on the same channel. If you know have the two devices on seperate channels the HDD is considered to be a "standalone" drive.

Check for your particular drive on this list and take a look at the jumper settings.

I agree with Dan, most WD drives require no jumper if your using it as a single drive. Also there should be a picture of jumper locations and what they do, on the label on the HDD.

I have an WD HDD.
It has its special setting for standalong mode, which different than MASTER mode ...
