I have one ata66 hard drive alone on #1 ide, hp 8250 cdrw master #2 and just put in the pioneer dvd as slave on #2.

All dma's enabled. Is this looking okay. Any better suggestions and reasons. No, I dont do disk to disk burns. I use nero and clonecd and win98se.

that should work fine as long as you accept that copying on the fly(which you say you won't be doing) may lead to buffer underruns as both cdrw & dvd are on the same channel!

Wouldn't hd & dvd on the same channel be slow for copying files or cds to disk as they'd both be on the same channel?
Would making dvd master and cdrw slave have any benefit as the dvd is faster?

True. but you need to analyze what you'll be doing most. In my opinion, i think you setup, leaving the hd alone and putting both CDs together, is a good one. Reason being, you'll probably copy more data FROM CDs then burning data ONTO CDs. Also, if u ever want to burn straight cd-to-cd, just use nero, create an image, and then burn the image from your HDD.

good luck

I do use Nero and always take the 'long way' and image to disk first. At 4x, its pretty long anyway. I figured I would be using the cdrw OR the dvd but never both at the same time.
