OP and OILFIELDTRASH: trading two big man for one CP3 is a good trade for Lakers? Lakers got nothing in the center now, unless they can get Dwight but i doubt they could.

You don't think Dwight has his agents bearing down on the magic execs right now? He'll be a laker - I have no doubts.

For like the last 10 years Kobe is used to being *THE* guy who has his hands on the ball at the end of a game. I wonder how he'll make the transition to having Paul being the guy who now makes the call to dish or shoot.
in that scenario, I'm pretty sure Kobe will play keep away from his teammates until he's literally down to one functional leg.

I'll probably get trashed for this.

The team who got fucked over the most is the Rockets - I'm not sure what they're thinking, they lost a lot in this trade for absolutely nothing. Don't get me wrong, Pau is a good player, but Scola is better at this point - and losing Kevin Martin, Dragic and a pick? Freaking ridiculous! The Hornets came out pretty damn well in this deal, given they were expecting to lose Paul next year. They're pretty much a superstar away from being a seriously contending team for a few seasons. If I was the Lakers, I would have sent out Bynum instead of Odom, who is a pretty damn good forward with ridiculous ball handling skills for his size. The confusing thing is getting Paul - Bryant handles the ball most of the time, so what's the point? They both can't play the passing lanes (Bryant plays some of the best D in the league, but his hands were pretty quick) without blowing too much coverage, so where's Paul factor in? Who's he dishing it to? Factor in all 3 pieces of the new "triangle offense" have knee problems, and we could probably start a pool on who goes out first.

And supposedly Okafor is being traded to the Lakers - that'll put this trade even more in their "favor" as others would see it. Regardless, since the Hornets are owned by the NBA, they shouldn't have been allowed to trade until the team is sold.

but if the D12 doesn't come to LA, then the CP3 deal is pretty shitty for Lakers.

I wouldn't sleep on Boston or Dallas. Ainge is a crazy guy who could work some wacky trade for Howard. And Cuban is just a good businessman.

And on an unrelated topic...I think NY waaaay overpaid for Chandler.

Of course they did - it was stupid, because it severely hurt their chances of getting Paul. They're really going to hurt without a decent PG.

Yeh and the rumor is that they are using amnesty clause to jettison Billups.

This doesn't seem any where as lopsided to me as the trade LA made for Gasol. That was just crazy. LA is giving up two players that were anchors for their championship runs the last several years.

One source close to the three-team Chris Paul trade talks just told ESPN.com: "The deal is off."

Not to sound like a punk, but I've never felt the trade was *that* lopsided. The Grizzlies are in a good position now, thanks to that trade.

Trading draft picks are a crap shoot, especially with a trade like that when you are likely not going to be getting lottery picks from LA. And Gasol's brother was still a bit of an intangible. Memphis risked a lot on that. LA got a couple championships out of it.

let the record show Kobe won his last 2 titles after Gasol came over. I love CP3, but the Lakers gave up a ton of size and skill to get him. So I wouldn't conclude they fleeced the Hornets.
.

that's why i was saying in the other thread that this was a dumb trade (for the lakers)

Gasol would not have stayed in Memphis, he wanted a ring. He would have left because they weren't building that well around him. Regardless, Marc was a pretty high prospect that quite a few were surprised that the Lakers wanted to give up.

Sources said that a group of NBA owners, assembled in New York for the ratification of the league's new labor pact with the players, protested vigorously that the league-owned Hornets were trading Paul to the star-studded Lakers and convinced NBA commissioner David Stern to intervene.

"The deal is off," one source told ESPN.com.

NO would have been a playoff team just from the players they received back, while trading their superstar? If that is the outcome of a trade, you know it's lopsided.
