Saw it last night. It was different, but not something I want to see again.

yeah, because it had Russel Crowe in it.

No I wouldn't say that. I thought he did an admiral job, so to speak.

I just don't like early hacksaw medicine scenes. Getting puke in my popcorn bag is not what I go to the movies for.

Saw it last night, awesome movie. More of a "boat movie set in a war" than a "war movie set on a boat," so I could see how it could get *boring* to those who only like hack and slash movies. Lots of nice touches of detail, you get a real feel of what it would have been like living on a boat like that (an ideallic one at that,) and be glad you never, ever have to do that.

Is it just me, or is this movie only available in a limited amount of theaters? In NJ, the one big theatre I go to isn't playing it at all and they usually play everything. Two others, not as good as the bigger one, only play the movie once or twice on certain days.

Im angered because, obviously, I want to go see this movie.

Like the above have said it's not a hack and slash movie and many have gave it a thumbs down because of it.

Typical answer: Nothing like Gladiator :(

Well, it was an excellent movie but it was long and drawn out. Crowe proves himself to be a top tier actor again, despite him being an IRL prick.

Excellent movie. Was really cool to see how they did stuff back inthe old days. Plus i just love the whole pirate-ishness feel with those nice old boots.

I agree, this was a good movie. The best I'd seen all year until I saw an early screening of Last Samurai... which I liked much better. But I have a feeling the Return of the King will be the best movie to see this year.

You mean Top Shogun. ;)

I saw Master and Commander (etc. etc.) this weekend and thought it was excellent. Great performances by both Crowe and Paul Bettany (who I completely failed to recognize from A Beautiful Mind). The storm chase sequence was amazing.

I was slightly disapointed by M&C, it was good, but not as excellent as I had anticipated, so maybe the problem was I thought it would be better. A little too predictible at times, like when the Dr. was tromping across the Galapagos and came across the other ship, very predictable... however i loved the portrayal of life on a ship at that time. I could almost smell the stench of 150 unshowered men.

that's funny, because the final battle onboard the french ship reminded me a lot of gladiator (especially crowe as the uber-warrior).

most of the movie would only appeal to someone with an interest in history and life aboard an old boat (like me). It also seemed to be a total "guy movie" with no love story, etc. I liked it a lot, but my wife wouldn't have. So I took her to see Runaway Jury the next day and she was happy.
