LOL @ thinking a SAM is going to track and hit something moving that fast.

The US is the world leader in airborne interception, and we don't even have it down. And ICBMs are a tad slower.

Title is misleading, Russia is behind on MIRV defense, although the S-400 and S-500 can and will compete/exceed current Patriot 3 systems for non ICBM threats.

Probably because it didn't happen? Other than that site, all the other stories I read indicated that the meteorite exploded on its on in the air, like the Tunguska blast in 1908.

Those videos are crazy. I watched four different ones that record the explosion, and every time it happened I jumped in my chair.

Also does everyone film their daily commute in Russia?

Holy crap, that's amazing and that only after a few hours, we have 1080p videos of it online.

Wasn't some massive meteor supposed to pass within the moons orbit this weekend?

Seems like a rather interesting coincidence :colbert:

My money's on this as well. People probably saw the meteorite explode and thought it was blown up by a missile. Meteorites blow up because the temperature change from deep space to earth entry. If there's a lot of water in them, they basically sound like popcorn popping.

dashcams record all the time and just write over the oldest video when the space is over.
All russians have these because their roads are the wild west so you will find people purposefully involving you in accidents that look like you're at fault to get money, cops trying to fine you for stuff you didn't do because they're corrupt, insurance scams etc.
So everyone except cops and scammers wants hard evidence to avoid having to dish out money.
An example of why you need it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsV6PAlMI6U

This is why russians can document all the crazy things on video.
