why can't you hold a ballot and vote on it like a democracy?
majority of states + majority of votes = yes ban, otherwise it fails and everybody just shuts up for a few years.

Because the US isn't a democracy, it's a constitutional republic.

Besides the OP deliberately misquoting the article, did anyone else notice Tab's tyrannical desire for the president to abolish a private organization and confiscate everyone's firearms? Not only is it a grotesque attack on basic principles and liberties, but it shows an alarming ignorance of the consequences if that were to happen. Makes me wonder how many anti-gun nutters like him there are out there. Some people are simply happier in chains.

I caught that. I'm astounded that someone would want a totalitarian government.

It would be hard to pick two well-known philosophies more at odds than Christianity and Objectivism.
this is very true BUT I am no objectivist at all and I still think this quote by aye rand is sound.

Anyway, there is currently a pro-gun march going on in DC and crowds are estimated in the tens of billions.

I am a vet, but speaking purely as a civilian, I have owned, and fired many
weapons. To this day, I still pay for, or get mentoring from range officials.
I also have to learn how to care for, store and transport,(and where:hmm🙂.
It would be safe for me to state that I have hundreds of hours training with various weapons, AND YET, with each new weapon I buy, it still takes me days of firing, and hundreds of rounds to truly be comfortable, and confident with the weapon. No my friend, there is a LOT more to it then just pulling the trigger.
An Ipad does not carry with it the dire consequences of misuse, and the responsibilities to society.

He said 5 minutes to learn how to fire an AR, a rather simple technical task, not to be truly comfortable and confident.

Once you understand basic firearm safety (1) and have a baseline understanding of firearm knowledge in general (2), it does not take all that much to become fairly proficient with a gun. Some people such as you might have a longer learning curve, but it does not take months of military type training to be comfortable and confident. Common sense and practice is all a person needs once they have 1 and 2.

an AWB isn't about an object. That is a very silly argument. It controls people's ability to own certain things.

Other arguments such as it would be inneffective, it takes away rights, those arguments are worth presenting.

My point is that banning assault weapons is pointless because the "assault weapon" itself is nothing more than an object, a tool. The same as a hammer, a golf club, or a bucket of water.

Did you even read my post? Cause your post makes it look like you didn't.

Thread title is disingenuous and is not supported by the title of the article linked or any verbiage contained within it. Thread remains as is. Speaks volumes.

I see this thread has pushed the 'puke on demand' buttons of our resident conservative brain defectives. You poor babies suffer so. Here, take Moonbeam's hankie and blow your noses.

Way to s(troll) into a thread. not that your delusions bring any kind of reason to the topic. So probly best you just troll.

I cannot wait the day until Obama finally does will Bill should have done. Abolish the NRA and remove all firearms from civilians.

Good thing the founders left executive privileged or Obama would be up against the 2nd Amendment. Otherwise we'd be stuck with a bunch of dumb white folks with think they're soldiers.

You're in the wrong country. The fact that you have rights allow you to say crazy things like that. Read a history book...please.

Yes but they wont because you insist on in insulting the very people whom you claim to be trying to convince.

If you disregard reason due to someone elses actions/comments it is you who must question your motives and see if you are being true to yourself. Truth is truth no matter which mouth its uttered from.

Because it's a civil liberty guaranteed by the Constitution not mob rule. Beyond that I consider right to defend your life your very being the most fundamental right of all. More important than speech, more important than cops searching my house without warrant, more important than not torturing me because those won't kill me. Really should have been 1st Amendment IMO.

Just a point of fact, the constitution can be changed and has been changed, hence the term amendments and yes it is changed by the majority, 2/3rds to be exact (of course it's done through their elected officials).

Funny you mention the 1st 4th and 5th
As our privacy has been under assault for years, noone seems to give a shit about the those rights only 2a.

The 2a has a tangible, physical incarnation that a ton of people own. Not so much for most of the others. Sucks, but that's human nature for ya.

The difference between this crowd and the last one is the last one had mostly men who knew a thing or two about guns and gun control. This one is mostly women, and they probably think gun control is working wonderfully in Chicago.

"Nearly 1,000"

I'm not surprised.

Who organized it? Most people I talk to IN PERSON seem mostly against gun control. Those who WANT gun control don't actually seem to have strong convictions for it, honestly.

The first article I saw about this is the one below.

http://nation.time.com/2013/01/26/newtown-residents-to-join-gun-control-march-in-dc/

and it has this picture

Which made me laugh because I think the guy in the left of the photo is actually anti-gun control. Looks like it was from a different rally in PA. I did think it was weird they took a pic from a different rally.

Also, just noticed invisible woman in a bathing suit in that pic behind them.

Looks less than what showed up to Austin the other weekend. Here are the pics I took on Jan 19th in Austin. Which had crowds on both sides of the building. With greater diversity in gender, ethnicity, and age too.

Just amazing, so many turned out in support of proper gun control, turned out in support of ending needless gun violence.

gun control = ending needless gun violence.

Support that, starting with defining gun control.

edit: I take huge issue with random people saying "we are sandy hook." How dare they take on some sort of political personna in the name of children and teachers who were killed by a mentally ill idiot. What a farce. I get that's what politics is these days, everyone using tragedy for their own good, but saying "I'm sandy hook, so do what I say" is pretty terrible. It looks to me like it's just a crowd of people who need to be better at life itself.

You mean like Obama already has....this whole agenda is for our own protection and requires immediate attention though.
