Massive issues aiming in BF3 for PS3

I've always played FPS's on my computer, but I don't feel like upgrading my video card right now so I bought it for my PS3. So far through 4 days I have 0 kills with any gun (I have several with the rocket launcher) and have been killed in the area of 150-200 times.

My problem is this: no matter what the sensitivity for the joystick is set at, even slightly touching it makes my aim jump like halfway across the screen. so let's say someone comes around the corner and i need to move my aim an inch on the screen. if I even barely touch the joystick my aim jumps, not even moves rapidly, but jumps, all the way across the screen so now I'm looking at the floor or the sky or another wall while the guy that I should have gotten the first several shots off on is pumping round after round into my temple. I can get my aim to move in a smoother fashion, but I have to move it incredibly slow. In that same scenario it would take about two seconds to move that one inch if I do it smoothly. Sniping is impossible because I can't draw a bead on anyone, by the time I move my aim to where they were when I spotted them they're long gone. I can't keep my aim on anyone in a fire fight because if they move and I try to trace their movements with my barrel it either jumps half the screen or I try and slowly move my aim and the guy has killed me.

I acknowledge that there must be something I'm missing, I see people with 20-7 records after rounds and they're using guns and not tanks so I know there must be some way. Is this just an error with my copy of the game or something? It's not lag; my connection is fine. It's not that I have no experience with the games, I'm probably around 1.2:1 all-time in battlefield games for K:D ratio. Please help.

It is definitely you, not your game or console.

You should only be moving the stick a few degrees off center to correct your aim. Moving the stick to one extreme or the other should only be reserved for trying to quickly turn on an enemy that is behind or to the side of you.

Start with a lower sensitivity and maybe start a private match so you can practice. It takes a LOT of getting used to.

That's the thing; I'm not jamming it all the way one way or another, I'm BARELY touching the stick. I may try and figure out how to make an in game video and posting it. When you say a lot of getting used to, how long do you think roughly, playing an hour or so every day?

Have you played any other FPS' on the console before?

You could try another controller. And double check your sensitivity settings. But I'm betting you just need practice.

This is a valid point. Takes a bit to get used to FPS on consoles if you've never done it.

Still doesn't get nearly as good as PC (mouse + KB), but still very playable.
