Along with the release of Google Earth Beta 4 and Google for linux (which was pointed out by DailyTech) Google Earth has updated its image to include just about any place you can think of, in hi-res.

You have to see it to believe it, so check it out!
(download at googleearth.com, and for those who already have it just open it.

Look up Dubai, the Taj Mahal, and other cities/landmarks and you'll be amazed, though the search function doesn't find many things that are available.

so can i look for Russian military bases? =P

That and much more. I remember India was irked that some military installations were visible in high-res, but now the area covered by hi-res has increased by 20x or so in that country.

In the middle east, Israel is finally high-res, at least most of it is. All of the West Bank and Gaza as well as most of Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iran, and Iraq are available. Mecca and dozens of other Saudi cities and towns as well as neighboring countries like UAE, Bahrain, etc.

Lots of Island data. You can check out the fancy vacation homes in thousands of tropical Islands worldwide, as well as the massive airstrip on Wake Island (from BF2). You can also see the Three Gorges Dam in China, where just about any city or town you can name is available. Russia and Canada have large portions of their wilderness also visible in high-res, though of course lots of it remain low-res.

thanks for the heads up. looking to plot out some bike trails 😀

then all you would need is a large spinning mirror and some frozen bromide in an exited state...it would be like lazing a stick of dyamite...yeah.

cool. for, a steady 96KB/PS. that thing that's weird, is the incerdiable rez that you can now see Israel in. i'm surprised they let google at all. It's not like the rez in america, but still something like 50x better then before. cool though.

If I already have Google Earth version 3 installed, can I still get the hi-res images? What do I need to do to get them?

And yet vast portions of Pennsylvania are still uncharted. Including several "major" (as major as you can get in Pennsyltucky) cities.

Ugh! I've been waiting for the new data to see my house in Mexico, now the demark between the new data and low res data moved closer and is literlaly 300yards north of me! Sigh, maybe next update....
