mass storage message pops up when I try to install xp

QueBert

computer is running xp2 with all the latest updates. GF is having a few small'ish issues so I decided to do an upgrade install of XP to see if that fixes any of them. I get

Your computer has a mass storage device that's not supported on Windows XP.

there is no type of USB storage device or anything out of the ordinary on the system. I recall she got this one time when she was attempting to do an upgrade install, and when the PC would reboot XP would stick in a loop and never load. Not sure how, or what she did durring the install. But, I'm not trying to go that route. Googled and the message I got seems to be from some type of external storage device, and she doesn't have one. Any ideas what else could cause this?

thanks

Run msinfo32 and look under components/storage.

If it's a device like a digital camera or something, just remove it during the install.

If it's like an SATA drive or something you'll need to F6 a driver during install.

no SATA. msinfo32 isn't showing anything. she has a digital camera but it's not hooked up at the moment. maybe I'll just try the xp install and hope for the best 🙂

uninstall antivirus and any CD Burning software before you begin (filter drivers).

make a backup too. You might be cruising towards a stop 0x0000007B

this isn't my PC it's my GF's, she has no way to back things up. and according to her if I mess up her computer I will die. So unless I can be sure 100% this message won't hamper the process I'm done with it. I will try uninstalling Nero & AVast like you suggested thanks...

usually when I see this it means I have an external drive hooked up or I have a controller that is requireing a driver upon install of os.

RAID card or MB controller that needs a disk.
