Looks like the shooter failed his background check, whoever gave him or sold him the gun should be put in prison for life as he or she is also responsible for all these victims.

Why do conservatives seem to believe that outlawing guns wont prevent gun violence, but outlawing abortion will prevent abortion?

It is because, and this is going to shock you - you might want to sit down for this, they are not sincere in their arguments. Sorry I had to break that to you so bluntly.

Allow me a response added to the many already made to your query:

In support of Smogzinn's comments, I'd say that in many cases the Repubs are forced to either defend and/or dismiss unpopular stances that they take. Ergo, they find themselves in positions where being insincere about their motives and reasoning is all they can do to respond to the criticisms coming their way.

For example, defending their racist brethren, or being all in against a health care program that millions of them benefit from, or defending their legislator's and president's wishes to get rid of all the other social programs they directly benefit from or cannot decently live without ie - Social Security, Medicare etc.

That list goes on and on, more so now that they have an incompetent corrupted narcissistic man child as their leader of whom their party faithful are compelled to defend his ridiculously aberrant behavior and deeds.

It's practically impossible to defend their president's ludicrous, arrogant and self-interested behavior without having to be insincere about it.

ABC says the weapon was purchased in a private sale, which requires no check. The GOP is unwilling to close this loophole no matter what.

Republicans are fine with mass shootings as long as white people are pulling the trigger.

Probably. I seem to recall Reagan didnt give a damn about guns until black people in California started arming themselves.

Reagan flipped on guns back in the 60s. Then he flopped when his Press Secretary was shot in the head. He moved to being in favor of the assault weapons ban.

There was another Republican who changed his position when one of the mass shootings was close to his daughters school. I think it was Dayton.
