Why do conservatives seem to believe that outlawing guns wont prevent gun violence, but outlawing abortion will prevent abortion?
Allow me a response added to the many already made to your query:
In support of Smogzinn's comments, I'd say that in many cases the Repubs are forced to either defend and/or dismiss unpopular stances that they take. Ergo, they find themselves in positions where being insincere about their motives and reasoning is all they can do to respond to the criticisms coming their way.
For example, defending their racist brethren, or being all in against a health care program that millions of them benefit from, or defending their legislator's and president's wishes to get rid of all the other social programs they directly benefit from or cannot decently live without ie - Social Security, Medicare etc.
That list goes on and on, more so now that they have an incompetent corrupted narcissistic man child as their leader of whom their party faithful are compelled to defend his ridiculously aberrant behavior and deeds.
It's practically impossible to defend their president's ludicrous, arrogant and self-interested behavior without having to be insincere about it.
