Is it possible to return this game to the company for a new one? I bought the game and even have the case handy, would I need some kind of insurance policy with bioware or something like that?

You don't state what problems you have. If you bought it from a store and have a receipt, why wouldn't you go back and say your copy is damaged so they can give you a new one???

If you have the receipt you should be able to return it to the store and tell them the game is broken/corrupt, they should replace it, I'd presume.

If the taking it back to the store option doesn't work, then you'd probably need to go through the publisher (EA) and not the developer (Bioware) to get a new copy.

I see, I thought the problem was an installation matter. I uninstalled and reinstalled to check. The game won't install for some reason. It says:

"An error has occured, installation unsuccessful"

Look at the shiny side of the disc, are there scratches?

The copy protection requires activation, do you have a live internet connection on your gaming PC?

Are you using virtual CD tools to mount ISO images? Copy protection software doesn't like that.

Most stores will just give you another copy of the same game so if it isn't scratched you probably need to go to the EA or Bioware support sites for help.

Before I did anything about this, I got this error, but I did something about it but without results. Bad results I'm afraid. I used a disk cleaner I got from a kit a long time ago, I've never had any problem it so that leaves it's involvement out of the question. The disk still doesn't work, and I get an error when trying to load the setup from exploring the DVD; before I had problems installing everything I had issues getting ALL the files from the disk onto my computer during installation.

I also tried using a scratch remover, which may have caused this additional problem. I cleaned the shiny part of the disk good, with only the standing out scratches remaining. My hardrive got zapped earlier by a power surge so maybe my DVDrom isn't working correctly (along with many other components in the computer).

What's a good way to remove scratches and is it possible for a power surge to ruin the functionality of a DVDrom?

did you try installing the game on another computer? It could be your computer and not the disk.

Yes, try to install the game onto a different PC and check it.
