Played through ME1 and ME2, several times. I've been avoiding the spoilers in the discussion thread, but I'm getting the impression the ending was . . . disappointing.

No plot or spoiler discussion in here. Is the game worth buying? Yes or no.

I say It's worth buying for the story line, but I also say It's not worth buying cause of all the cheese and cliches they've tacked on. It's like in overdrive now.

Also, they'll hopefully release a graphics pack for the pc to allow better textures.

...yes. On one condition.

When, in the last moments of the game, someone says "Nothing's happening" and Shepard starts getting lifted up on a platform, alt-tab out of the game. Spare yourself from the idiocy of the ensuing 10 minutes of the game.

Other than that, the game's phenomenal!

The ending is disappointing for one reason, none of your choices that you made throughout the games (1, 2 and 3) will affect the endings. Basically, all your choices are meaningless.

Well, that's my take on it anyway.

I'm looking forward to buying the "ultimate" pack next year with all the DLC on the disk for $29.99 :)

Is that really the main complaint? Because I only finished 1 so far, am in 2, and I can see choices did impact things, but this is in the end a scripted story like any game. There's only so much one can expect. I can think of few if any games with an elaborate story and ending that have completely different endings (with the ending being more than a bit of text and a graphic, that is).

It's hard reading reviews without spoilers but I'm under the impression that this is consider by most people a very good game but many people are getting to the end, hating the ending so much, that they just as punishment to Bioware tear it up in reviews, even though they loved the experience up until that point.

Anyhow, once I"m done with ME2 I'll buy 3 and sell if following completion as I always do.

The game's phenomenal, provided you're okay with the way they're marketing/pricing it. Personally if I had it to do over again I would have skipped the "Digital Deluxe" edition and gotten the DLC and saved $10 that way.

Not to mention they apparently have more or less slightly modified works found on Deviant Art for some significant moments in the game. Or so one of my friends tells me, I won't be buying for the ridiculous paid-DLC on launch and all that business.

I have played it briefly though, and it seems to suffer from an even more serious lack of difficulty than ME2 did. My adept came out of the gates ridiculously powerful even on insanity. Maybe that changes as the game progresses, but I got far enough that I doubt it will get significantly harder.

I should note that compared to some gamers I know, I'm a pansy about difficulty settings. Depending on the type of game, I tend to play on normal. Hard if I'm looking for a challenge. I rarely touch the hardest difficulty settings.

And seriously, the only thing that really decides the ending of ME3 is you, in a single dialogue option, with the standard good/neutral/evil setup. Or so I'm told.

No such thing was ever made for ME2; there's no more reason to think ME3 will get one either...

ME3's endings didn't even have that (bit of text and graphics) to give closure to your choices. Dragon Age Origins was far better in this regard.

As for completely different endings, well, there is Alpha Protocol.

Heck, even BioWare's own Knights of the Old Republic had more differentiated endings -- you either are honored as a Jedi hero and you see a ceremony put on for you, or you become a Sith Lord, with a huge Sith fleet coming out of the Star Forge under your control. (Knights of the Old Republic 2 undoes the significance of that choice, but at least within the first game by itself the endings were different).

Loved 1, hated 2, do not want 3.

Really only interested in the opinions of those who've bought and played the game, thanks.

The zero day/on disk DLC ticks me off, but I do want to see the story through to completion. From what I've read, there's not any epilogue to speak of and I like to find out what happened to my party members after the conclusion.

So far, the poll seems fairly split. ~35% say Yes, about 45% say No or Boycott.

I am only partway through the game, so dont have firsthand comments on the ending. But I have read enough, including some spoilers, to expect to be pretty infuriated. Unfortunately, the ending of a game is what sticks with you. And in a way, a terrible ending to an otherwise great game is even worse than the entire game being bad. It just seems like such a waste to put so much into the franchise and the final game only to be left with an empty feeling when its over. It's kind of like playing a great game in the Super Bowl only to lose on the last play.

I also think Bioware has pretty much used up the goodwill that they had built up over years of making great games. First selling out to EA, then the changes made to Dragon Age 2, now the day one DLC debacle for ME3, and rumors of a really anticlimatic ending are leaving people without much tolerance anymore for Bioware.

Yea, KOTOR 1 was one of my favorite games ever, and your choices really did make a difference in the ending. Some might call the light side ending sappy, but I really enjoyed both endings, and played through several times both light and dark side. Both endings also were very good culminations to the hours you put into the game. KOTOR 1 was the last really great game made by Bioware in my opinion. DA Origins was up there, but was sort of the beginning of the ambiguous endings.

I want to finish ME3, just because I paid for it, and want to "complete" the series, at least so far as possible within the limits of the game. I have to say though, I dont plan to ever play the game over again, and absolutely refuse to pay for any DLC even if it makes a more definitive ending.

I'm a little confused. I keep hearing that the ending sucks and that all your choices were for naught. Aren't there multiple endings? Are every single one of the endings horrible?

No.

There are very serious bugs that could afflict your saves.

#1 Multiplayer Resets
#2 Galaxy at War map not updating/linking your sp/mp games
#3 Missing war assets in single player games
and #4 single player saves can be reset too

Once some or most of these are fixed? Hell yeah, it is a good game, so far I have avoided all the SP bugs and am able to play that but I did lose all my multiplayer progress and so my friends and I stopped playing MP until they fix it.

There are 3 endings (other than just failing). It's a pick-your-ending ending, with none of your choices from ME3 or the other games mattering at all, except to boost your "readiness meter", which can be done with the random side missions from ME3 instead. The main difference between the 3 endings is the color of some explosions -- blue, green, or red. I kid you not.

I have not had any of these bugs, but have had two or three instances where the game completely froze up and I had to power down my computer totally to get out of it. Kind of surprising for such a graphically undemanding game, and I dont recall similar problems in the first two games.

I'm personally waiting until a sale. I'm trying to be better about buying games as they come out. I've barely touched Skyrim as it is.

I'm glad I waited for it seems that you should wait for a few months after any large release game so they can get the bugs worked out.

I got hooked into Mass Effect 1 and 2 for the last 2 weeks. Just finished 2 today so I picked up 3 lol. Gonna start it up once I finish with some work.

That sucks. I'll definitely wait for the bargain bin then. Doesn't seem worth installing origin.

Not worth it at full price and from what I've read the story is too short for a fifty dollar title. I'll be waiting till it's twenty or so.
