Mass Effect 3 to get a proper ending via free DLC

While this may assuage some people, for me it won't. The abruptness of the ending was only part of the problem. The bigger issue is that I didn't like the ending revelation at all, so an extension of that does nothing for me personally.

They won't be in this ugly mess if they actually put in endings that made sense instead of passing the current abomination as a artistic masterpiece.

Oh and screw that star child.

This is not a "proper" ending, it's to elaborate on it slightly. They won't be changing the ending at all. So they'll throw in more space magic mumbo jumbo.

I just hope they're not shoveling more shit onto a giant turd pile. At this point I will be disappointed if the indoctrination theory is wrong, because the regular ending is just stupid. But it's nice that they're releasing it for free.

That's supposedly fake.

In any case BioWare is supposed to make an announcement themselves at PAX tomorrow.

We'll see.

From PC Gamer:

Bioware announce that they’ll be releasing an extended cut of Mass Effect 3 that will expand upon its controversial ending with extra cinematics and epilogue scenes that aim to provide “more closure with even more context and clarity,” and deliver an ending that “will feel more personalized for each player”.

“Since launch, we have had time to listen to the feedback from our most passionate fans and we are responding. With the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut we think we have struck a good balance in delivering the answers players are looking for while maintaining the team’s artistic vision for the end of this story arc in the Mass Effect universe,” says Bioware co-founder, Ray Muzyka.

Bioware announced that they’d be adding new “game content initiatives” a few weeks ago to cater to fans disappointed by Mass Effect 3′s conclusion. The Extended Cut DLC is set to be released this summer, for free.

It’s a bold move from Bioware, and it’ll be interesting to see to what extent these extra bits alter perceptions of the finale. Will extended cutscenes and a bit of epilogue action be enough for fans who truly hated ME3′s ending?

Blocked at work, can someone quote the article?

This important bits are all in the the first paragraph.

I think I'll be satisfied by this. Assuming, of course, they don't just make the problem worse by injecting more last second plot devices.

Ugh, no wonder EA got voted worst company in the US.
The fans get outraged at the ending for a game, and then they say they will release a new extended ending for free.

Atrocious customer service. I'm never going to buy anything from EA ever again.

Also includes a FAQ. From the FAQ:
Are there going to be more/different endings or ending DLCs in the future?

  • No. BioWare strongly believes in the team’s artistic vision for the end of this arc of the Mass Effect franchise. The extended cut DLC will expand on the existing endings, but no further ending DLC is planned.
I unfortunately got my hopes up; I was really starting to believe in the indoctrination theory.

Endings as DLC? That's a new one. 😛

Why don't they make every chapter DLC? That would complete the full monetization of all parts of a game. 😀

They tried that with Half-Life Episodes. Not really sure why they didn't keep up with it, though I'm sure some fanboy will tell me it was because someone wanted everything to be perfect...

What I worry about is that some people aren't going to be happy that they didn't get the ending that "THEY" thought should have been. And will complain. And raise a stink.

It almost turns into a never ending cycle.

people will never be happy, but they have a good reason in ME3. If they gave some closure, a bit of summary, some epilogue and actually bothered to make your decisions matter this huge blowout wouldn't have happened in the first place.

They already make your decisions matter for tuchanka and quarian/geth, why not just follow through in the ending?

Key writer got very sick. They told him to take all the time he needs. Same reason Portal 2 took so long.

BTW your post is a bit of flame bait don't you think?

Yep.
Tech singularity, AI child, relays destroyed, all synthetics die (or not), whatever
...that stuff never bothered me near as much as the complete lack of character closure, and unexplained holes (
like the Normandy
). That's what created this mess.
