GameInformer preview summary. A tidbit, for the purists:
The RPG elements are being beefed up, not going back to ME1, but giving more freedom with the character skills. Skill trees will be larger, and powers will evolve several times instead of just once, offering even more freedom. Weapons are ME2 style, with a set list, but mods make a return, not in the ME1 style, but allowing you to swap out different parts such as barrels, scopes, and so on, which effect both the weapon's combat performance and its appearance.

The rest of us are enjoying the sweet, sweet taste of Talimancer tears.

As long as Matt Laidlaw doesn't come within a hundred miles of the ME development team. I have high hopes for the game.

You mean Mike.

Yeah, I sorta think firing him is about the only way the Dragon Age franchise can get back right with the hardcore folks. Not going to happen, unfortunately for us (and fortunately for him).

WARNING

That post the link brings you guys to contains MAJOR SPOILERS...

Thanks for the warning about that by the way, s44, much appreciated, at least I know how the game starts now even before it is being released. With some luck BioWare will be stupid enough to include those same spoilers in some inevitable trailer like they did for ME2's trailer where they showed the mass that the Normandy was being attacked, that way I won't feel alone out there getting owned like I've just been.

With even better luck some of what that guy describes of the game's events won't actually happen in the game, yep, that would be nice. Why the fuck did I click on the link, I swear sometimes I'd like to stay in bed.

It's the end of the Arrival DLC and the teaser we already saw.

I'm just curious about the DRM, will it end up as dragon age 2 ? or ME 2 w/ cerberus network card.

Hah! I didn't click on the link.

I don't think I'll be reading any of these articles. I'm just gonna buy the game and play it when it comes out.

Nope, it's consolized. Everything is consolized and it'll never be as good as ME which will never be as good as KOTOR which will never be as good as BG2, clearly Bioware is circling the drain.

You might as well be playing GOW at that point.

No kidding. While I felt ME2 was definitely an improvement over the first in many ways, a few things were a little TOO simplified. If they make any effort at all to go back in the other direction that's perfect. I'm quite excited :D

Will the story and villains be as WEAK as they were in part 2 or as good as they were in part 1?

Like any trilogy the second part always seems to be more of a segway to the finale. Happy to hear that some of the RPG elements are making their way back in. I did miss my Pistol specced Soldier from ME1, yep I ran a pistol soldier, was awesome and fun. Hope I can do it again, but I ran a Sentinel as my main in part 2. I thought that ME2 was mostly an improvement, and that it set the story for a more direct finale. Really looking forward to ME3!

I'd assume it'd be much closer to the first. The first one set the stage of the overarching threat that's looming, where the 2nd one was very character focused so you have proper attachment to your crew. The 3rd one will go back to that looming threat and will probably have an epic ending, as I believe it was a planned trilogy. Now that the characters are set it's easier to focus on enemies and the story NOT connected to getting a crew.

Sounds good. I tried replaying ME1 recently but after playing ME2 it's hard to get into the older one. The charm/intimidate thing is annoying. As I understand it, you could get points in charm and intimidate without having to spend skill points on them, but it's much too slow a process that requires multiple playthroughs. Most dialog choices that rely on those skills require more points than you will ever have until late in the game.

The other thing that bothers me is of course the inventory system. It's frustrating trying to manage the weapons, armor, and all upgrades used by everyone in my squad. I can always just ignore certain squad members if I don't feel like using them, and thus reduce the amount of item shuffling I have to do, but it's still annoying.

Probably my least favorite aspect of ME1's inventory is how everyone has all four weapons even if they aren't trained to use them. That means when I'm outfitting my squad, I have to go to the skill screen, figure out which weapons they can use, then only give them better weapons of those types and ignore the others. And unless you're playing as a soldier, you have these extra weapons that you can't really use getting in the way and no way to get rid of them.

Combine ME1's skills and leveling with ME2's squad control, combat, and inventory (or lack thereof) and I'll be a happy man!

P.S. The other thing I noticed is that ME1 gives you XP for getting codex entries. Which means if you're obsessed with getting every possible XP, you have to dig down deep into all those "Investigate" dialog options. Great for your first playthrough, not so great after that. With ME2 I'm able to skip a lot of dialog without missing out on anything.

Now if they'd just make the "skip dialog" button different from the "select dialog" one...

I never understood the nerd love towards an in game characters like Tali club you see on the Bioware boards but to each their own. The one troubling aspect for those that Romanced in ME2 is that if Bioware were to set a trend on relationships then you won't be able to have a past romance as a squadmate in the next game. So far the only confirmed romance option from ME2 coming back in ME3 is Garrus.

On a sidenote my Sentinel from ME1, and ME2 got the cold shoulder from Liara in ME2. Therefore I romanced Jack because for some reason it just happened that way. Little did I know that Liara was going to bust my chops about it in the ME2 DLC and be a squaddie in ME3. Woops.

The romance options are all ridiculous anyway. Contrived, stupid, and poorly written. I just avoid all of them.

Oh yeah well.....

You miss out on the new "lover's quarrel" feature whereby past romances will actually open fire on Shepherd.

Word is you can actually have gotten Jack pregnant who has a special ability called "You did this to me!" whereby she releases the full extent of her amplified biotics. Kills everything on the screen, Luckily Shepherd can hide behind cover and make her a "peanut butter and sardine sandwich" because it's listed in her stats under "calming pregnancy foods." So you better up that cooking skill ASAP because you need to get it high enough to forage for those foods mid combat.

At least that's what I heard......
