Mass Effect 2 release date announced - Jan 26th

Kotaku - Bioware has finally announced when Mass Effect 2 will be released...January 26th for North America and January 29th for Europe.

If you pre-order from GameStop, you'll get the Terminus Armor which enhances run speed, damage, shields, another mag of reserve ammo, and the M-90 Blackstorm Heavy Weapon which creates a localized gravity well.

If you pre-order from other retailers, you'll likely receive the Inferno Armor which, besides sporting a nice shade of red, enhances your negotiating skills, run speed, and combat damage. You'd think with a name like "Inferno" you'd at least fart fireballs or something. <shrug>

I'm sick of this exploitation with DLC by the game developers and retailers. Remember when you bought a game, it didn't matter where or when you bought it, but you got the whole game? Seems like a distant memory now...

i don't really lump a 'preorder bonus' in with DLC, as they're usually pretty trivial. it's not like it's in a $90 'collector's edition' or launch day paid DLC.

i planned to preorder this, anyway. figured it would be out later than january...hope they're not rushing it.

Nice, I eventually bought it again for PC when it dropped to 20$, and I enjoyed it more than the 360 version for various reasons.

So you will actually have ammo now? I am not sure how I feel about that. I kind of like not having to worry about clips and ammo counts in the first one.

Can't wait for this game but the Gamestop pre-order bonuses are lame (and not just for this game either). Ah well, I love me some Bioware nevertheless.

Not only that but they had a whole in-universe explanation for how weapons worked and why ammo wasn't necessary. Why would they add it in later? Perhaps there will be weapons that do require special ammo, like grenade launchers or something.

I would actually like to see a little more variety in the weapons, rather than having just four weapon types and the only difference between weapons was stats and color. And if they're going to add ammo to the game, they had better fix the inventory system.

I'll have to get it for PC at some point (played ME1 on PC and liked it a lot, and that's where my save files are). Not sure when exactly... I might hold off until it's cheap because there are so many other great games coming out in a short period of time.

I remember that now yes... they had that thing in the codex about how the gun would shave bits of metal off of a block of metal and then using mass driver technology would propel said bit of metal sans explosive propellant.

I do agree that it is a little silly how the weapons are handled. Unless you are a soldier type, you can't use all the weapons fully I think. Let me get this straight, my back story is that I am a hero that held back the blitz. But when I get started, I can pack a pistol, and maybe a shotgun. The assualt rifle and sniper rifle on my back are useless, because I decided to go for biotics. I held off the Blitz with a damned pistol? Really? I mean, sure it never runs out of ammo... but still.

Do you guys think the price will fall at all by March 13, 2010? I don't have time to play it until then and therefore was not planning on buying it at launch. However, if the price isn't going to be lowered by that date then I might as well pre-order it and get the bonus armor.

I don't think so. I don't remember the first being lowered for a while so I doubt this one would change that.

Yea January and March aren't that far away and this is a big game so I don't see any type of price drop for a long time.
