Mass Effect 2 question <spoilders>

So I just finished the game, and have of my crew ended up dying. Is that scripted, or is there a way to finish the game without losing anybody?

Btw, I lost all the girls - so unlike Mass Effect 1 I couldn't get Shepard laid 🙁
 
yes you can get everybody to survive, but you need almost all the upgrades, including the personal ones like jack's upgrade, mordin's omni tool, then you have to pick the right team

And you have to romance people before the last mission starts. If you didn't get laid before you went through the omega 4 relay then you're doing it wrong.
 
Yeah I had to play it a couple times to have no one die. I also used legion in the tubes and garrus commanding the 2nd squad. But I used wrex to go back to the ship with the survivors.
On my insanity playthrough though I used those same exact people but I lost Samara this time. I had almost all upgrades (I think I just needed 2 more shotgun upgrades) so I'm not sure what I could have done to avoid that.
 
Getting all the ship upgrades is necessary, and making sure that all the members you use in any capacity (either in your squad or on an assignment) must be loyal, even if they are the best teammate for the job. For example, Miranda was non-loyal in my squad because I sided with Jack. On my first run-through, I used Legion in the access tube and Jacob as the second team lead, but had Miranda in my squad for her mighty useful Heavy Warp. Legion died trying to close the main chamber doors. On a second attempt, I substituted Tali for Legion and had the same outcome. Only when I dropped Miranda from my squad and used a loyal Samara was I able to get to the main chamber with no storyline deaths.
 
I had Miranda die because I sided with Jack, and Mordin died for some reason.

I'm going to totally replay it anyway though so no big deal. I also didn't get the deed done before the final battle. I was talking to everyone as much as I could...
 
For not lose anybody, you should make sure that

A) everyone is loyal
B) you have all the possible ship upgrades (Except for the med-bay)
C) use Tali/Legion as the specialist, with Garrus/Jacob/Miranda leading the fire team
D) use Samara/Morinth or Jack to make the biotic field, and Garrus/Jacob/Miranda to lead the fire team, and Mordin to lead the crew back to the ship.
E) try to pick weak defensive players for you squad for the last part, like Legion, Tali, or Jack, leaving strong, defensive players, like Grunt, behind. This is because the game does a defense check, and someone who has weak defense that you left in team B could die. This is why Mordin should lead the crew back, since he's very weak defensely.

As far as romance, I think you can do it after the final battle. I banged Miranda before the final battle, then banged Jack and Tali after. I actually felt kind of bad, telling Jack to let me in, sleeping with her, then saying "Yeah, I don't think this will work".
 
I bAnged Jack but didn't get the achievement. Maybe because I hit it and quit it? No one else would hook up that easy lol

Pretty much all you need to know how to have everyone survive. Just follow it to the letter 🙂 Actually, on my recent playthrough, I saw Legion getting hit and falling to the ground when the team was keeping the Collectors busy during my fight with the last boss. I was like "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO" but then I saw nobody died so 😛 Took Miranda and Thane on the last part (<3 Miranda's last talk with the Illusive Man!).

What he suggests is the more sure-fire way, but it's not all necessary.

A) I had everyone loyal, all you need to make that happen is very high paragon/renegade score. It's possible to have everyone still survive even without it though, reports online of that unlikely.

B) you only really need 3 upgrades. Armor from jacob, guns from garrus, and engine core shielding from tali.

C & D are spot on. Mordin tends to die first because his defensive score is the lowest.

E is also true, although I played with samara and thane for the last part.

Did you just say you want to have sex, and then afterwords she won't talk to you? That's the 'renegade' branch of her romance, and doesn't really count as completing her true romance.

There's really 3 ways to have sex with her.

1. Immediately => She won't even talk to you ever.

2. Get to know her, and THEN choose paragon or renegade choices to get either paragon or renegade scene.
 
Interesting. I kept romancing Kelly - and even got to have a dinner with her, but then I began the final quest and she got abducted by the collectors and then got killed.

I didn't jump through omega 4 relay as soon as the crew was kidnapped, and the cutscene made it seem that if I did she could've been saved.

You can't romance Kelly. Best you can do is get her to dance in your quarters I believe.

And I was so close. She said she would feed the fish in Shepard's room, and Shepard thought "hell yes! After I return from my trip on the shuttle, we gonna party!" But then she was kidnapped. Then Shepard saw her again at the collector base. "Hey, we may just go through with this after all!" But then the pod thing like ate her, and Shepard must have thought "FFFFFUUUU-!!!" Poor Shepard.

yeah... I lost her too

I thought losing the crew was part of the game, but my buddy saved them. I wondered what I did so I checked online. Apparently barreling through the main game, and then taking your time to finish the side quests before going through the relay is exactly the opposite of what you should do. Who knew?

At least I was able to save all my team
 
Maybe I was lucky but I completed the game with no deaths without prior knowledge/spoilers besides the three ship upgrades.

There is a certain amount of 'luck' involved I think. The game makes checks on characters through the final mission to evaluate if they made it or not based on their defense. Their upgrades help that. Mordin has the lowest defense and is usually the one that most people can't keep from dying, which is what happened to me. I then brought Mordin along with me to fight the end boss and everybody else lived.
 
yeah, it's best to just have mordin in your squad. incineration blast can be pretty devastating, at least.
 
do u get to bang ppl in mass effect 1 if you are a girl char? i made a girl char before knowing all these...

You can hook up with anybody in mass effect 1, at least as a female. In mass effect 2 you can only hook up with the opposite sex.
