Mass Effect 1 install problems.. "saferun.exe"

I tried doing their manual install by unziping every file in the data folder and different errors started to pop up. Screw this. I want my money back.
 
Probably not directly related to your specific issues OP, but perhaps some information in there could help you, hopefully it does. Another thing to consider is that the digital version from Amazon might not be patched (I'm not sure, but it's a possibility). I myself own the Steam version, and I've never experienced issues installing it or playing it, except for some minor audio-related problems from time to time but that's about it.
 
Any reason you didn't get it from Origin (-50% now)? Or Steam?

Perhaps try adding your CD Key to Origin and get it through that?

It was on sale through Amazon for 5 bucks compared to 20 else ware. Its not an amazon download problem but a Bioware problem. From googling this has been around since the game came out and affects disc installs and download installs.

Mass Effect 1 cant be added through Origin, only 2.

Its fine now, Amazon gave me a refund even though their downloadable media has a no refund policy. A+ for Amazon customer service. I find it ironic that the "other way" works great.
