Looking at the picture...what are the odds that's not a real patient...Looks like the plopped a random dude on the bed and threw a mask on him.

And...Shame on the Mayo clinic for not making him follow the rules and put a fucking mask on.

His excuse is bullshit - Pence - "I thought it'd be a good opportunity for me to be here, to be able to speak to these researchers, these incredible health care personnel, and look them in the eye and say thank you."

What?..You can't look them in the eye with a mask on??...wtf.

You do at Costco. Was there about 1:15 to get gas for the lawn mowers, and pick up some MEAT before it's gone. Then rolled across the street to TJ's and it was a mixed bag as far as mask wear. About 15% non-participation which surprised me since Trader's is still the only store around here that won't let you bring in your own bags.

He may have done it kicking and screaming, but at least he is wearing a mask now.

Reason 7,526 of why Pence is of the scumbag class of shitstains

Pence threatened to punish the reporter who proved his office ignored the rule that he needed a mask to visit the Mayo Clinic

Steve Herman undermined Pence's wife's claim that the vice president didn't know he was supposed to wear a mask during the much-criticized visit.

Now this pisses me off. I almost think this is criminal considering that this was at a nursing home. This is Mike Pence''s press secretary at a nursing home not wearing a mask on the day that she tested positive for COVID. I guess she did not learn from her boss the previous week to wear a mask in public. Or that the guy who IS LEADING THE PANDEMIC TASK FORCE is just doing things for show and not taking what the task force, or the scientists who are advising the task force, seriously.

Just shocking that she is every bit the ass hat her husband is.

Additionally I was making the argument that the emphasis the public is placing on mask wearing as measure of safety can be too high, and potentially counterproductive if it gives a false sense of security and licence to avoid more efficient risk prevention measures, such as quarantining, distancing, and hygienic practices.

My experience so far is that masks seem to emphasize the need for social distancing. They have value in that way, reminding us not to let our guard down. They're like a stop sign of sorts.

Then they are effective, which is the fucking purpose of a mask.

Maybe for some, otoh I see people out wearing the masks completely wrong, and sometimes doing jobs that sketch me out (like food handling at grocery store) or getting way too close to people.

Part of the reason PPE is considered less effective, significant possibly of user error.

Was at a Target yesterday in the Detroit area at least 30% of the employees had their masks pulled down below their noses. Even more frustrating was the customers who would take their masks off completely once they were in the store.

Went grocery shopping yesterday (MA) and there wasn't a single person without a mask. That was nice to see.

I've seen almost complete compliance in my area (South Central PA). I've seen a few morons without masks though

The mindset behind those baffles me, particularly the inside part. "Whew, I'm indoors, that virus can't get me here!" Like they're evading a bear instead of a microscopic organism.

Then again, I recently had someone accost me for being in a hurry to get through the apartment lobby door because that same person refused to wait a safe distance away before coming in. It seems like there's a legion of people who genuinely don't understand what "pandemic" means and think they only have to maintain safety measures as long as it's convenient.

At least two Walmarts have been closed due to 1/4 of employees testing positive. It took MA about a month to get onboard with compliance.

Walmart was the worst offender I had to frequent.

When I visit Aldi's in Springfield, 100% compliance. Walmart eventually made it mandatory. Out in the sticks it took longer to catch on.

It frankly pisses me off, SE Michigan has been one of the hardest hit areas of the country and many people still act like nothing has changed or is still on going. I am not above public shaming of such stupidity at this point.

Essentially 100% mask usage where I live. I went grocery shopping yesterday and I think I only saw one woman who did not have a mask/bandana over her face. She had a scarf around her neck, I'm not totally certain if she was legitimately trying to use it as protection because she did not have a mask, or if she was using it for show so that she wouldn't get kicked out of the store.

County crew was out in the street today doing some spot patching. 1 or 2 of them had masks on, and many times 6ft distancing was not observed. We may have leveled off, but that's all that will happen with this kind of behavior.

I was grocery shopping the other week and a woman had a whole poofy sweater tied around her face lol.
I presume she didn't have/forgot her mask and made do.

Masks are mandatory which is good, but enough people doing it wrong (mostly men) had me ready to GTFO.

Then again, I used to wear surgical masks everyday for many years, and highly trained in ppe, cleanroom & facility engineering controls and aseptic technique, so I have a critical eye, and it's easy to see germs everywhere because they are.

Many people don't seem to understand just how viruses spread, and how diligent you have to be if you want to be reasonably safe. To the point where you're remembering what you touched, with what hand.

Some people i.e. me, don't fit a universal size so well. Big nose, and broad face. I worked at Evanston Hospital (now Fransican) in Evanston Il for a couple years maintaining medical equipment, like patient monitors. Used to have to gown up in "bunny suits" for Infant Special Care and wear masks, and surgical smocks and pants with paper booties when I had to service gear in the OR's. Masks were kind of hard to get a few weeks ago also. For a while in the beginning I had some cheap wood shop like masks for when I mow the lawn to make do.
