BAGHDAD, Nov 10 (Reuters) - Several masked men with rocket-propelled grenades and assault rifles blocked a bridge and a main road in western Baghdad on Wednesday, residents said.

Clashes erupted, they said, but no details were available.

Reuters Television footage showed about 15-20 men roaming unchallenged among traffic on the road in the Ghazaliya area before they blocked the bridge and the clashes started.
I thought the insurgents were in Falluja? Oh wait, they were in Najaf...or was it Samarra? Maybe it was Basra....

BAGHDAD (AFP) - Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi extended a closure of Baghdad's international airport to civilian traffic for another 24 hours as part of a series of emergency measures, his spokesman said.

"The prime minister has decided to extend the closure of Baghdad International Airport for a further 24 hours," Thair al-Naqib said in a statement.

Allawi on Monday decided to shut the airport for 48-hours after he declared a state of emergency the previous day in a desperate bid to curb the escalating violence that touched has his own family.

Wonder how many people are getting registered to vote in 2 months?

I wish you could at least try and not gloat over how things are going in Iraq. It is even worse IMHO than those who have blinders on as to what is going on.

conjur may have an agenda here, but I seriously doubt if he's gloating over the circumstances in Iraq. I'm pretty sure we all want things to go sucessfully (except maybe for a few trolls here), but some of us have differing views on what "success" entails.

How am I gloating? I'm pissed off as hell that this is going on. This war sickens me and I really feel sorry for the Iraqi citizens whose lives have been destroyed by this war.

President Bush is steadfastly holding to his agenda of having elections in January. I don't see how that's feasible given the 60-day emergency declared by Allawi and major assaults going on in cities like Falluja. Is the Iraqi government planning on registering everyone when they show up to vote?
