many people use the chicken stock and it adds so much flavor!
I would like to try that, but would beed to find stock w/o MSG.

I also like doing "smashed" potatos with roasted garlic, a little sour cream and butter with chives on top.

MMMM! i love mashed potatos!

yeah its great

:)

... if you want really really good mashed potatoes then roast a chicken and use the juices from the bottom of the pan instead of chicken stock (try to avoid the fat). cut back or eliminate the butter if you do this.

Boiling a little celery or onions in the water is also good, but make sure to remove them before mashing because they leave chunks.

Try smashed potatos with

One bar of cream cheese, a whole stick of butter, Some chopped garlic browned in about 2 tablespoons of olive oil, approximately 1/4-1/2 cup sour cream...

REALLY FATTENING but oh soo yummy!

I also like to leave about half of the potato skins on... and the taters must have LUMPS!

There's a place on Las Olas, called "Mango's" (probably spelled wrong) and they have the best 'smashed potatoes' that I've ever had.

I dislike the mashed potatoes out of a box though, they're too smooth for my tastes.

Although, I prefer my potatoes boiled with the skin left on, and then sprinkled with garlic salt (or garlic powder) and butter.

good one is adding fresh chives, a lot of butter, bacon, sour cream and lots of cheese and making mashed baked potatoes.

I was thinking the exact same thing... never heard of that before (in potatoes) It sounds worthy of a try.

My mom taught me to make them using milk, butter, and a spoonful of mayo (or if you don't have mayo, a little lemon juice.) Don't know why it works, but it does.

I like to use new potatoes with the skin on, and throw some parmesan and herbs in. The new potatoes make it a little sticky, but so good. Mmmm.

didn't read the whole thread, but has anyone tried putting romano cheese and galic in their smashed potatoes? You would have to be very very careful with romano cheese, too much and it'll taste bad, but the right amount!!!!!! you'll get claim jumpers quality mashed potatoes.

Forget the chicken stock, add a tsp. or two of bacon grease for decadent goodness.

I like to sprinkli the powdered ranch dressing mix in with my instant potatos(cna't stand lumps). That is the shizzle.

On a side note. When I was a kid, about once a month my Mom would treat me to instant potatos.

Metalmat's mashed potatos:

2-3 regular idaho potatos
Cottage Cheese
Salsa
Hot sauce
Season salt

Step 1. Wash the potatos and poke holes in each one with a fork.
Step 2. Take wet (not soaking) paper towles and wrap each potato in one
Step 3. Microwave the potatos for about 8 minutes, check the firmness on each one after 8 minutes, then microwave for about 4 more minutes. When you can stick a fork in the center of one it is done.
Step 3. Take the potatos and mash them in a bowl.
Step 4. Add the rest of the ingredients as liberal as you want
Step 5. Go out and get drunk after you eat.

I like to keep the peelings in the mash, adds alot of fiber ;)
