MASH and AFTER MASH

JEDI

Lifer
Wow, Father Francis Mulcahy (William Christopher) + Klinger (Jamie Farr) were the only actors that were there since the beginning to the end of After Mash (13yrs).

If radar would have stayed, it would have been great as he was the only actor from the movie that was on the TV show. (although radar did make a couple of guest appearances in After Mash.) if he stayed, he would have been major hardcore w/15yrs.

Why did the actor who played radar leave the show?

For that matter, why did the actor that played Lt. Col. Henry Blake leave the show?

Capt. "Trapper John" McIntyre -Wayne Rogers decided to leave the show because he felt that Trapper John had become more of a sidekick to Alan Alda's Hawkeye than the equals they were supposed to be. 20th Century-Fox sued Rogers, but its case collapsed when it transpired that he'd never signed his contract. The reason Rogers cited for this was an archaic "morals clause", which he wouldn't accept unless the studio signed one for him in turn.

Maj. Frank Burns- Larry Linville left the show because he felt that the character of Frank Burns was too one-dimensional, and that they'd done all they could do with it.

Loretta Swit wanted to leave the show after the 8th season to star in the TV series "Cagney & Lacey" (1982) (she had originated the part of Det. Christine Cagney in the pilot movie). Executives wouldn't let her out of her contract, so the role went to Sharon Gless. :Q

MASH was my favorite show growing up. i think they both left to move on to bigger and better things..neither one did

Wayne Rogers did the show for fun and never needed the money since he was already wealthy. He went on to form an investment counseling agency for the Hollywood crowd while doing the Trapper John TV series.

Wow. Bet they felt stupid for paying him all those years. 😛

After MASH was pretty bad. I really tried to watch it, but gave up quickly. This is coming from a fan of the movie and first show. I would surprised if there was an ep that I haven't seen (thanks to syndication). I still remember watching reruns in the early evening and new eps when they aired (Mondays, I think).

I like MASH but don't love it. It ultimately got so formulaic that I find it hard to watch now. Particularly in the later years, it felt to me like every episode hit the same note: we're-all-having-fun-in-Korea-but-war-is-hell-so-some-minor-tragedy-will-befall
us-in-the-last-ten-minutes. IMO the show kinda started to suck once Maj Burns and Lt Col Blake were gone.

What alot of people don't know is that the movie/TV show even though set in Korea, was really more about the vietnam war (you can google it).

Gary Burghoff left because the producers were tired of having a charecter who got more naive as the war went on.
He was tired of playing the same naive, sweet kid every year.

He had a Pilot called W*A*L*T*E*R about a returning corporal who becomes a policeman and has crazy adventures.

Incidentally, the best place to find GOOD info is www.bestcareanywhere.com

Oh, and regarding the OP's post: The charecter of Mulcahy was in the first episode, but the actors changed.
Klinger's charecter started later on in the first season.

Majority of the series was shot just outside of Malibu.
