Mary Wood’s school reprimanded her for teaching a book by Ta-Nehisi Coates. Now she hopes her bond with students can survive South Carolina’s politics

The level of radicalized/organized fascism in this country is just astounding.

And of course, in the end we discover this whole thing was organized by Mom's for Liberty hate group and the school board meetings were packed with outsiders planted by MFL to preach the controversy.

I have gifted this article. It's worth a read...

CHAPIN, S.C. — As gold sunlight filtered into her kitchen, English teacher Mary Wood shouldered a worn leather bag packed with first-day-of-school items: Three lesson-planning notebooks. Two peanut butter granola bars. An extra pair of socks, just in case.

Everything was ready, but Wood didn’t leave. For the first time since she started teaching 14 years ago, she was scared to go back to school.

Six months earlier, two of Wood’s Advanced Placement English Language and Composition students had reported her to the school board for teaching about race. Wood had assigned her all-White class readings from Ta-Nehisi Coates’s “Between the World and Me,” a book that dissects what it means to be Black in America.

The students wrote in emails that the book — and accompanying videos that Wood, 47, played about systemic racism — made them ashamed to be White, violating a South Carolina proviso that forbids teachers from making students “feel discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress” on account of their race.

Reading Coates’s book felt like “reading hate propaganda towards white people,” one student wrote.

...

Keep reading at the link. It's stomach turning.

Want to bet phrases like "reading hate propaganda towards white people" were not written by students. Did some of the information on race make some students feel bad? Perhaps, but do you think some of these other things made students feel bad?

The Holocaust?
Tulsa Race Massacre?
Mississippi Burning?

Likely answer is yes. They should feel bad. The truth about history sometimes makes you feel bad. Think black parents in Florida feel bad when their kids are taught the "benefits" of being enslaved which is a lie? National organizations are invading local school districts and ginning up attack campaigns against teachers and librarians.

Republicans are only concerned about the feelings of white kids.

Even if the kids did write it, it's right out of the Tucker Carlson playbook.

Even better - the book was presented in a way where the kids were encouraged to disagree with it if they felt that way.

I guess they are bigger fans of cancel culture than they thought. I’m shocked.

Must protect the white children from learning about their ancestor's past and their parent's present race based crimes, right? It's simply a method of re-writing history in-absentia that will in effect perpetuate the use of racism as a means to suppress our nation's people of color's advancement into becoming fully equal members of America's society.

I mean, just think about how a racist impoverished uneducated white person felt when they heard that Barak Obama was THEIR president representing THEIR interests? That they should now assume that Obama was smarter than themselves in order to become the leader of the most powerful nation in the world? For many of them, the world as they knew it ended that fine January day back then. The impossible happened and something needed to be done about it. How do you think it felt knowing that, in their minds some genetically inferior animal was of a much higher rank and status than they were?

Time to double down on their racism and guess what? Just in the nick of time Donald The Racist Trump came to their rescue. Impeccable timing wasn't it? Just a coincidence? Hmmm....

If students don't “feel discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress”, then you're teaching history wrong. Which is definitely their plan.

This is the conservative brain defect. To a greater extent than liberals, any factual material that arouses negative feelings about their ego self image will be deflected away by using the intellect to invent rationalizations that the data is not true. The reason for this is that they carry a lot of emotional pain that is suppressed by external identifications that are there to replace the real self respect we were originally born with.

This rejection of the notion that Blacks have suffered at the hands of Whites will be denied most strongly by people who were historically White bigots and were humiliated for it by having lost a war over it that sought to end that evil. Their inner insecurity, the rejection of the notion that being white makes you not superior but bigots deserving of contempt triggers that hidden guilt and produces instead denial and a desire for revenge. They still have the same problem. They feel inwardly inferior and needy of someone to project their self hate on, one origin of racism in the first place.

Self haters hate themselves and hate the truth that they do. They have ego arrogance and fear humility as a confession of worthlessness out of a need to deny the guilt they themselves were made to feel.

This is the one time I will agree with you about the whole self hate thing - these people do not like being reminded of bad things from their past and are lashing out in an attempt to make the humiliation go away.

The important thing to note, if I many encourage you further in that direction, is to note that you can't trigger feelings of humiliation in people who have not already internalized those feelings. These folk need to deny their present day racism because racists in the past, generally their cultural ancestors, were prevented by force of revulsion and military defeat to give up on rationalizing away the evil of slavery thus denying them that formerly socially acceptable illusion of superiority by the delusional notion that one race is superior to another when in fact there is only one human race. They feel robbed and aggrieved and terrified of their own hatred coming back at them in the form that they are the new (the plural of the N word goes here), a status that by their bigotry they earn, unlike the people onto whom they transfer their feelings of self hate.

Furthermore, all of this is accidental, the result of growing up in a culture with a particular form of racial projection that substitutes for the natural self respect we were all born with as a gift. They act like monsters only because they were made to channel their self hate toward some external for which race is a common stand in. If it weren't race it would be something else.

That is the problem with self hate. The pain of humiliation as children makes conscious awareness of it seemingly impossible to bear so projection become a compulsive need. We are victims of our own belief. I suggest that the exit of such self torture is the realization there is no escape, the realization of the hopelessness of belief. An empty teacup can be filled. Our true nature can be hidden but never really lost.

It must suck to be so consumed by self hate that you see it in everyone else but yourself. Hope you get the help you need some day. Really pulling for you.

Allow me to ignore for the moment your clear lack of familiarity with information I have made clear over and over in my posts to this line of attack and simply point out instead your obvious incapacity to reason:

What person so logically consumed as you suggest I am could possibly imagine that as the sole possessor of the absence of self hate in a world full of self haters would have in such a reality any hope of finding anyone qualified to help him. Such a person by your own logic would be irredeemably lost leaving as a result the obvious fact that you harbor no such kind wish at all toward me but rather, as I have pointed out to you quite frequently, only the bitterness of your own heart and the concomitant need, when reminded of this fact , a desire to put me down.

Know therefore, as I pointed out in the post you quoted, that while you can’t humiliate anyone who has rooted out negative feelings of self hate and retrieves real self respect, the very awareness itself that it is only self hate that supplies the trigger that causes the surfacing of hidden negative feelings, while it can’t cure the pain, will at least free a person possessing and heeding such awareness, that there is no truth to such feelings.

Know then that your desire to put me down will never amount to a mole hill with respect to what we went through as children. I hope that, on the contrary, it will be you who finds some help from this wisdom.

They want to teach history like North Korea or Russia, it’s not supposed to be feel good nationalist garbage we’re supposed to learn from our mistakes in history.

One of the dumbest aspects of this is that this was supposedly the behavior that right wingers were trying to get the whole country outraged about several years back (i.e. the children being so emotionally upset that they make them stop teaching anything deemed "controversial"). Now they're openly pushing for right wing brainwashed zealots to do this. Yeah yeah, everything they bitch about is just them (not even realizing apparently) announcing their plans.

But the dumbest part is how many liberals believe(d) that shit without question to the point that they basically ushered in this situation.
