I've recently been fiending for some old school 2d fighting action... my new roomate just hooked up his ps2, and my first thought was marvel vs capcom 2... used to love that game, but I had no idea the game was so valuable... check the ebay listings.

ebay

I'm seriously considering dropping a bill just to play this game again... anyone else think its worth $100+?

I wouldn't pay 100$ for it. Then again I still have it for DC so my opinion might be skewed. I would go for other 2d fighters if I were you, personally I like the GGX series and Capcom vs. SNK 2.

It's the same way on Xbox, prices are ridiculous. They need to release it on XBL Arcade, they'd sell a fortune of 'em.

I'd probably still shell out $50 for the game, but $100 is crazy.

If you're willing to spend $100 and don't own a Dreamcast, I'd rather just buy a used console for like $40-50, and download the game via whatever method you'd like. No mods required for DC playback.

Hey, maybe you could get $100 for it!

Well it's for the XBox. And I like it enough I wouldn't sell it. I just wouldn't pay $100 for it.

Dreamcast version is exactly the same as the arcade version. Much better than the xbox or PS2 version. I have it and play it occasionally (huge fighter fan) but there is so much that's come out since that I'd rather play. GGXX:AC, Arcana Heart, third strike, KOF XI

I don't think at this point, I'd pay too much for it.

MvC2 = worthless w/o joysticks IMHO

Hell I'd love to find an actual MvC2 machine.

$100? Good lord, that's ridiculous for a fighting game. I've had a lot of fun with it in the past but it's barely worth $20 dollars to me, and only if I had the console already. Am I the only gamer who doesn't think all this stuff ages that well?

Yes.

MvC2 was a ridiculously awesome fighting game.

So if I have 2 of these and MvC2, it's not worthless, right? ;)

my buddy has the same setup back home... do want.

Pretty hot. I wonder how much one of these will set me back

First part is certainly true and I've never been able to find a quality 6-button joystick that has the proper weight to it.

Easy to find one and cheap if you don't care what the cabinet looks like (i.e. it may have a different game logo on the side). As I posted here before I'm eventually going to get an SF2 machine once I have the room for it.

There are some VERY nice arcade sticks out there, they just aren't cheap.

I had one when I had my PS2 that set me back $200 and I hated it. I'm not really willing to spend much more than that.

No, a $200 budget is perfect. Here's one for you that will work with the PS2. VERY nice arcade stick and should give you the exact feel of an arcade stick, maybe even better. ;) No cheesy plastic junk.

Looks good, but how's the weight of it? That was one of biggest problems, the joystick I had was too light. Every time I tried to do a 360 piledriver with Zangief, the controller would lift up into the air; very annoying.

Yeah this is the way to go. DC controllers are great too.

ouch..

as mentioned, the DC version is a perfect port of the arcade version. I definitely wouldn't pay so much money for a lessor version of the game.

This thread makes me happy to have purchased the original release for DC... well, slightly happier than I am when actually playing the game, which also makes me very happy :D

edit: On a similar note, finding out how much FFVII for PSX goes for these days has made me dig out my original release version for another play-through.

I got the Korean PS2 import for $5 shipped, sealed. I bought an Xbox copy for $35 shipped, sold it for $60. Also got a backup copy for the DC, I'd probably buy the original for like $10.

I have it on my DC and play it pretty regularly still. We are close to getting an arcade one at work, one of my co-workers is pretty confident he found one in good condition :D
