I'm going to pick this up from Gamestop after work, already have my Juggernaut code for DLC.

Has anybody tried this out yet, and if so, what are your thoughts?

It's alright in short bursts. Much funner if you're a comic geek methinks as there's a lot of story and stuff that they seem to eat up. Personally I liked X-men legends better even though this one has a better selection of characters to use. The combat gets boring, and the RPG elements are TOO dumbed down.

Is it worth buying or should I just rent it? I liked the first one a lot.

Yeah, I've been playing this with my kids and it gets very repetitive with pretty much the same enemies but slightly different skins. You start the game off at Dr. Doom's castle and later (if you choose the Cpt America side as far as I can tell) you end up fighting SHIELD who use pretty much the exact same weaponry and personnel as you saw at Dr. Doom's castle. I'm not sure who you fight if you choose the Iron Man side but I'm sure it's the same.

They definitely took the RPG-lite elements of the first Ultimate Alliance and made them even lighter. I miss the uniform changes and bonuses among other things.

I'm only through the first mission after choosing sides FWIW. So, maybe the enemies get less repetitive as the game goes on. I'm hoping anyways.

Might want to add a "2" to the title for the lightly informed (like myself).

I was intrigued by this. I enjoyed the X-Men Legends games and the 1st MUA. Too bad about the dumbed down RPG parts :(.

I felt that this whole series jumped the shark with X-Men Legends 2. The formula really doesn't have that much depth, and the most interesting parts (the Diablo-esque RPG elements and alternate costumes) have been removed from MUA2 for whatever reason. So, it basically becomes nothing but a mindless button-masher. Meh...no thanks.

Personally, I've been enjoying the game as much as the first one. I agree with the others that it's sort of disappointing that this game doesn't have the armor system of the first game, but at least the team boost system makes up for part of it. I also like the way the health and reviving is handled in this game. In the first game it seems like we wasted a lot of time just standing around waiting for time to pass so we could revive a team member. The fact you could simply wait around made the system pointless and also boring and tedious. At least this way you can revive on-the-go once you get one of the healing power-ups. This game also feels like it has a lot more boss fights. I'm not sure if that's true or not, but it certainly feels that way so far.

What system are you guys playing on? I got the game in from Gamefly for the 360. I had a friend in from out of town this last weekend for a football game on Saturday and we intended to play through the game. But then my 360 went RRoD on Friday just as we were starting the game. Since we both wanted to play the game badly (he's not in town often) I just went out and bought the PS3 version. From the short time I spent with the 360 version they seem identical.

There's still alternate costumes. But, yeah, no armor. That has instead been replaced with team boost medals that you both find and earn. It's not as deep, but better than nothing I suppose.

[edit] I just realized that you may have been talking about the alternate costumes with respect to their alternate stats/skills. Yeah, I don't think the alternate costumes in this game provide for alternate skills. I've only actually used one alternate costume and I don't remember anything changing stat wise.

My friends and I call this game "Menus" due to the fact that you spend more of your time in the menus than you do actually doing anything. Of course you could just turn on auto-leveling and not worry about it.

I got stuck in a particular part of MUA and never finished the game. Oh well, it was a repetitive button-masher with way more dialog than plot anyway.

LOL... well, the Wii version is decidedly worse than the other platforms.

:D I played the first one with a 6 year old, so I feel your pain. He's 8 now, and we breezed through this on the casual setting joining Ironman's side. Half way though he said it was too easy, and I had to agree. We finish it in about 8 hours, and now will try Cap's side at the heroic setting.

Dude, you think it's hard playing with 4- and 6-year-olds? They will at least listen to you, more often than not, when you say to do something (whether they actually succeed in doing it or not is a different matter). My friends, on the other hand, are about as competent at playing this game as retarded alpacas. They don't just fail to move in the correct direction, they actually lose track of their characters every three seconds and never have any idea of what's going on.

 I've been playing with my 4-year old daughter and 7-year old son. My daughter wants to switch characters constantly. Anytime a new girl character gets added she has to switch to her immediately. Then they start fighting over who gets to be Deadpool. More often than not, she gets a character that can fly and just flys around the screen for fun. Sometimes she'll put the controller down to go play with another toy. I have to remind her that she needs to help us fight if she wants to play.

Playing with the two is fun and frustrating at the same time because I can't go through the game as fast and I can't explore the side areas for goodies very well. I started another campaign just for me to play by myself and I quickly caught up to the part of the game on the pro-SRA act side that my kids are on on the anti-SRA act side.

Picked this game up yesterday. I must say that I'm slightly disappointed in the screen tearing during cutscenes. You would think that developers would know how to turn on v-sync by now. The normal parts of the game run pretty smooth, it's mostly the cutscenes that seem to be the issue.

Second part that annoyed me is the lighting is very very dim in some parts. I had to turn the brightness up on my TV during the initial Latveria stage, for instance, to be able to see everything going on and this is the first PS3 game I've had to do that in.

The Good: So far I am loving the Juggernaut. I like the huge amounts of collectables and things to unlock, and how there are some things that only super strong characters can lift (although there should have been more of them, in my opinion). The combo special moves are pretty nice.

It's not a bad game. They do seem to be following a path of less and less rpg in every iteration (from XML to UA1 to UA2, the ones I've played at least). And by the end of the game, it becomes a spam fest more then anything else.

Very annoying that the new game+ you get after beating the game once is limited to legendary mode only - part of the reason I like new game+ is for the power trip revenge. Legendary starting at 30 is still harder then normal at level 1.

The Juggernaut is pretty damn powerful. It's hard to believe how easily he just stomps through everything.

I am having a hell of a time on the destruction training sequence though, I can't seem to break 80k points (100k for the gold). I tried human torch but his fireblasts seem to run out too quick and the camera angles mess me up. If I had my buddy playing I'm sure I could do it but the AI just has the additional party members sitting around doing jack squat. That's another downside to the game, the AI kinda stinks.

Other than the issues above I am having a blast. The game is easy enough that if you have people over they can jump in and play without having too worry about doing the wrong thing, only problem is the camera seems to get really far away sometimes from the action, but as long as you yell what direction to go it works out good. Me and my friend were playing for a good solid 2 hours non stop and ended up getting pretty far.

NO MORE ARMOR?! WTF?!

Wow, so what RPG elements are left, just experience and the ability to put points into skills? That sounds terrible! :[

I already thought MUA 1 was a bit lacking compared to xmen legends 1/2, but this makes me not even want to take the time to pirate it to even see if its worth buying. I'll probably pass until it goes on super sale a couple of years later.

Back to aion :[ I had high hopes for this, but maybe it might be worth playing on DS or PSP

I seem to remember the destruction room being a job for Thor. His Dashing charge with mjolnir has a pretty big area of effect, is cheap, and just as important, it's much faster then moving.

Unfortunately, the unlock does not seem to function as advertised. Your powers don't do any worthwhile damage, but the melee 'crits' just seem to function as a damage boost and don't process any on-crit bonuses from other advantages. Too bad - if they did, it would be an interesting trade off.

Unrelated note: On Heroic, Iron Fist is utterly useless - his attacks are too slow and don't do enough damage. On Legendary, where the regular enemies no longer drop health orbs, he's vital, simply because he has a group heal power to get your HP back up after a fight.

I've heard you can unlock Thor with the code without ruining your save game, is this true?

Juggernaut seems damn near indestructable compared with other heroes. I love the fact that some of his boosts are across the board protections versus everything. I can mow through waves and waves of enemies with just the charging move.

Dunno, I did it normally. If you don't have him yet, you can try a storm combo with someone else. He giant wind will blow most boxes to one side, where it's high density for AoE attacks.

I bought used, so no pre-order Juggernaut unlock for me, and there is still no way to unlock him any other way.
