what form of martial arts are you taking or used it to take? and what's your favorite? my dad got sick of me sitting on my ass all day so he signed me up for tae kwon do without my consent ("do you want to take tae kwon do?" "no, in the summer or something..I'm too busy with school work." "whatever...get ready, your first lesson is today - I already signed you up last week." ":|") so far, I like it but it's strenuating work although my endurance is a bit better.

No offense, but no good parent would force their child to do something without their consent or against their will. I certainly wouldn't have taken that from my dad.

Back on the subject, I took karate on and off for a couple of years. In most of the fights I've seen people just wail on each other and their adrenaline is so high it doesn't matter because they're not feeling anything, or it ends up on the ground.

I took American Tae Kwon Do several years ago and made it through six belts before quiting. I've recently restarted at a different school and have restarted as a white belt. Its good stuff for building your endurance, concentration, strength, and speed.

Ju Jit Su is the way to go... mostly all fights end up on the ground and knowing how to grapple works towards your advantage.. plus its fun..

I was a wight belt in class and only doing it like a month and I was taking down people from other arts.. some browns from karate, tae kwon do and even ninjit-su...

too bad the instructor quit..argh! :|

I have studied several different styles including Ta Kwon Do, aikido, judo, and my new one, Shaolin "kung fu". Lots of fun and good excercise......you never know, I might even have to beat up some tough guys someday.....;)

I am learning WTF (not what you are thinking .. WTF stands for World Taekwondo Federation) style Tae Kwon Do. I had some training in kung-fu before but was never good at it. I love TKD and it's my favorite so far. You should definitely give it a try. Hope you like it.

did it for a while and taught some too. its fun. if you really get into it and train like a mofo, you'll see yourself do better in other things. for me, i got better in basketball. you ask why? cause my endurance went up, my hands got quicker, my reflexes got quicker, and i could jump a little bit higher!

not for everyone but you wont know until you try!

Used to do TKD. Went through 6 years of training, got my black belt, and then I tore my ACL (plus some other stuff in my knee). Delayed surgery for a year because I had no time to rehab during my first year of college. Bone rubbing against bone is some excrutiating pain. Finally got reconstructive, in bed for 2 weeks, rehab for 6 months. But never the same again, never was able to get back into it. Very though. Still, TKD is great to get into, gets you into great shape.

I found a home with Aikido. It fits my non agression-non violent ideal, but prepares me to protect myself and is a good workout and anatomy lesson to boot.

I took TKD for a year before I lost interest. My dad had his own TKD club and taught a few people over the years after learning from a master in Korea (got his black belt in 6 months). He told me he would never teach me unless I specifically asked him to, he wouldn't force it on me. I kinda regret not taking him up on the offer, I mean, I had a 5th degree black belt at my disposal for personal lessons. I never really liked the sensei that I had for that year, which is why I probably never asked him for lessons.

I've heard Brazilian Ju Jitsu is very useful in street fighting situations because you almost always end up on the ground grappling. It is a way of forcing your opponent into submission using different choke holds.

I think Dennilfloss could have used it when he kicked that drunk's ass.

Myself, I took Shotokan Karate for 8 years. Not very useful in my opinion. Just like you, when I was a kid, I was forced to take it.

I took Taekwon do for a few years when I was a teenager. Soon after getting my black belt, I hooked up with my first "real" girlfriend. Somehow TKD just didn't seem as important after that.:D I've been looking to get into a different style, but there aren't a lot of choices around here.
I kinda sucks how your dad signed you up, but if you like it, thank him and if not, quit.
