Ok, so roughly four months ago, I purchased a Marshall DSL40C amplifier. The amp was purchased new.
Anyway......
The amp probaly has about 200 hours of playtime....usually mid gain / lower volume levels inside the house. Two days ago, I plugged it in, let the tubes warm up as usual....hit the standby and good to go. But nope. I heard slight crackle noise....which may have lasted all but two seconds. Then I head a single pop noise. Then, regardless of what I tried, it had no sound. Whatsoever.
Looking in the rear of the amp....The two power tubes .... One is like the one on the right, and now, the other one looks like the one on the left in the pic. I have read online...particularly here http://blog.thetubestore.com/how-to-tell-if-your-tube-is-bad/.
This isnt my pic, but these are identical to mine. Both were like the one on the right. Now the right one is normal looking, and the left one is white. Just like the pic below.
Anyway, this post is for more of a confirmation of a bad power tube....AND advice on upgrading the pre amp tubes.
I want to upgrade the pre amp tubes also. What I play, is mostly.....80's early 90's style. Anything from Guns to Nirvana.... But I want a warmer sound. The stock DSL40C is too bright for me.
I want more of a Slash November Rain solo tone.
My current guitar is a Schecter Solo II
- Bridge Pickup: EMG 57
- Neck Pickup: EMG 66
- Ernie Ball Regular Slinky #2221

Pre-Amp Tubes -- Please recommend
Speaker Upgrade -- Something in Creamback ? Or a Vintage 30 ? It is quite possible I could be picking up a Boss ME-80 as well.
Any advice on pre amp tubes ?
