Am I the only one wanting to see a video of the guy being dropped and the judge casually gavelling "case dismissed"?

It's easy to pass that off as some deranged punk creating his own demise, but the story mentioned he was there to testify how the gang worked. If these Tongans are anything like many of the other gang members in the States, that means he would have been divulging methods of communication, translating tats, detailing chain of command, etc. - all punishable by death for the serious crowd. That may have been him changing his mind, knowing that if he went through with this odds are he gets his on either side of the wall. Could this have been a case of 'goin out like a soldier' as they say?

Course he could have just had shit for brains too. And that's why we have bailiffs and other armed personnel at courthouses.

The person killed wasn't saying anything, he was charging the witness.

"From what I understand, the defendant may have grabbed a pen or a pencil and charged the witness stand at that time."

Let me see if I can understand the mind of the blood thirsty creeps on these forums,..

#1, law enforcement is bad
#2, law enformcement should exercise non-lethal force, when non-lethal danger is present
#3, an alleged gang member grabs a pencil/pen and moves towards a witness
#4, law enforcement guns him down
#5, blood thirsty creeps cheer and applaud

$10 says if the alleged gang member was white you would all be shitting the bed over this and back to #s 1 & 2 for like a solid year on how and why this should not have happened, how Obama ordered the execution of this man who didn't even get a chance to be placed on trial (his rights, GAWD dammit!!) and how all law enforcement should be disbanded.

Fucking sickos, you cheer the very same people you claim are murders, when they aren't killing your own.

I don't think there are that many people on these forums that fall under #1/#2 and #5. There are a lot of people that agree with #1 and #2 and a lot of different people that agree with #5.

Without seeing the video, I don't know if shooting was the best option. But I do know if you charge a witness, you have got to know getting shot in the act is a very real possibility, and I am glad he was subdued before he could harm the witness.

8 shots inside a court room, to hit one big dude seems a little excessive, though. But again, I wasn't there, I haven't seen a video so maybe it made sense at the time.

Angilau was on trial on racketeering charges in the courtroom of U.S. District Court Judge Tena Campbell. Along with a string of robberies and assaults of local store clerks, the 6-foot-3, 260-pound Angilau was also accused of shooting two U.S. marshals in 2007 and brandishing a firearm
Siale Angilau, 25, a member of the Tongan Crip Gang, was shot several times in the chest about 9:25 a.m. MT after charging the witness in an "aggressive, threatening manner," the FBI said. He died several hours later later at a hospital.
Why was the marshal next to the witness who was being assaulted? Only way that chest shots would have happened.

The shooting prompted Campbell to declare a mistrial. She said in a brief order that U.S. marshals had continued to hold Angilau at gunpoint near the jury box while jurors were still in the courtroom.

"The court has met with the jury and and observed that most of the jury members are visibly shaken and upset by this episode,'' the judge wrote. "The court finds that this occurrence in the courtroom would so prejudice Mr. Angilau as to deprive him of a fair trial."
Does the bolded make sense?

So the judge then feels that the defendant actions would have preclude him from a fair trial?

The story is confusing as anything based on the way it was written!

The pen might be mightier then the sword, but today we learned it is not mightier then the gun.

Maybe there should be a documentary called: "Retarded in Salt Lake City: A Look at the Dumbasses in Charge of Stuff'

He was not restrained in the courtroom...The federal courthouse, which opened last week with upgraded security...

It took you this long to figure it out? We're opportunists, we always line up on the winning side. We're all racists and bigots as well. Heck, there even a few of us that are still hanging with that fifth dentist and refuse to use crest.

In a room full of cops, they had to shoot a prisoner (ward of the state) to keep him from killing someone with a pencil? They should all be ashamed to wear a badge.
