MARS Rovers still going...

I was just wondering what was going on with them the other day.. Sweet!

The fellow who is in charge of the Mars Rover investigation, Steve Squyres, taught a class I took on planetary science. He's one of the smartest and most articulate scientists I've ever met. In addition to the Mars Rovers, he has some direct or indirect involvement in every major planetary science project that's happened in the last 25 years here in the U.S.

Anyone come across any high res color pics that the rover picked up? NASA's multimedia section seems to have all B&W images.

solar conjunction. As a result of the difficulties getting data off of the rover, the memory available for science data storage shrunk to roughly 100 megabits by sol 261, but has recovered as of sol 262 to roughly 400 megabits.

???? How big is the Hard Drive or flash memory on this thing? I would have sent Rover up with at least 100gb.

I'm sure they used flash memory, or some short of non volatile memory.
The mars lander bounces on the surface 30 some times before it comes to a complete landing. I don't think they would trust a hard drive to survive that fall.

it's to make up for all the million dollar space junk they put out there on other missions 😉

j/k, I like Nasa...be nice if it wasn't such a huge bureaucracy though.
