Just went out to take a look... Out of about 8 visible stars in the sky (Chicago suburbs and slightly cloudy) There was a bright red one, I'm guessing that was it.

The closest start to our solar system is Proxima Centauri which is 4.4 light years away. A light year is 5,878,499,812,499 trillion miles. So in reality 46 million miles is a very close distance.
