what i find amazing is that these things are STILL going. well into 60 days. 800 million well spent in my opinion.
 
wow 300 meters. 🙂 Yikes, must be some land speed record. 300 meters in one month.

how does the rover decide where to go? Does it take pics that get beamed back to earth, then we tell it to go forward 1 foot, left 4 inches, then forward another foot, then it takes a new set of pics?

NASA team designate a target, and the rover autonomously drives there, stopping for further guidance if it encounters a 'risk'.
