Marrying someone for US citizenship

A friend is considering marrying her part-time boyfriend in order to help give him citizenship in the US. Has anyone done this or know someone who has done it? It is my understanding that if you get caught in a "false marriage" you can go to jail. What would be the problems and consequences of doing something like this?

I knew a matronly lesbian that married a young Scotsman. She was 15 years his senior.
They had to have the same billing address and stay married at least two years.
They lived together in the same house in separate rooms. Her heart was as big as she was..........:sun:

EDIT: She knew him for five years as a friend before she "saved" him.

I guess so. The man's family is a bunch of wealthy diplomats, so he can set her up with some money, but then I dont see why he couldn't throw his political weight around and get citizenship...I guess money doesn't buy everything.

So you have to live with the person for 5 years? Do people make surprise visits to your home and things like that?
