Marrying my ex-girlfriend in October. Anyone done this before? Any advice?

I need to get ordained because I'm marrying my ex-girlfriend and her (now) fiancee. Of course she's my ex from High School and I'm now 33, and we're great friends, but figured I'd start the thread on a funny note.

Anyone ever get ordained before? Any advice on which "church" to go through? Is it really as easy as filling out a form? Should I get ordained in the state I live in or in the state they're getting married in?

Only get ordained though a service and in a state that recognizes prima nocta for the minister.

Whelp, OP is fucked for life. ATOT might as well start rounds of betting based on how long before the divorce.

You don't need to be ordained to marry someone and doing so just to marry someone is wrong on so many levels I don't know where to start.

Seems easier than becoming a Justice of Peace, but I could be wrong.

I have a feeling that the question is state-specific. I know in PA they have law that allows two people to simply declare they are married as long as they say it in front of two witnesses, and nobody actually has to be officiating - and they're legally married. It's a holdover from the days of the Quakers. There are a couple other states which allow self-declaring marriages. So if you're in PA or one of the other states, you need no ordination.

That could lead to a *very* bad hangover after hitting the bars. "I did what?!" :^D

Lol no kidding. I heard there is this church in the main Vegas area with all the casinos, bars etc where they'll marry you pretty much on the spot like that, I wonder how many people actually do that while half drunk and only realize what they did the next morning. If there is not a divorce office next door it would make a good business to open. :p

The sucky thing about marriage is that if you don't do a prenup then if you get a divorce you basically lose everything you had. I really think they should make it so by default you get to keep the stuff you already had before the marriage.

It's one of the things that would make me really nervous from getting married, I would essentially lose my house and all the work I put into it while single if the wife turns out to be crazy and then eventually divorce. Maybe even my cat. There was a recent story where a divorcing couple had a cat and the husband was most likely going to get it, so the wife got the cat put down. I can't imagine the level of devastation and anger in a situation like that.

It's very, very easy to get an annulment in those "got drunk and married" cases. There are also rules (the chapels in Vegas aren't, afaik, allowed to marry people who are obviously intoxicated.)

Also, today at the pet store the local animal shelter had their displays set up for adoption. There was a friendly one-eyed cat who seemed pretty chill. The paperwork said he was voluntarily given up because his owners were getting divorced.

I'm not allowed to have any more cats.

Nope...I never married your ex-girlfriend. I might have enjoyed her company for an evening or two...but it never got serious.

Wait...you mean perform a marriage ceremony for her and some other guy? o_O

is you stoopid? Just send them to a justice of the peace...or justice of the piece...that would be cheaper.
