Charging for WiFi at a hotel? What is this, 2001?

This is modern way of creating more revenue streams. If you travel much these days free WIFI is more the exception. You know, like aillines charging for bags. I gave up and joined Hilton Honors just so I can get free WIFI at the Embassy Suites.

my experience has been that free WiFi is pretty common at low end of the spectrum, but super rare at high-end hotels.

I was a little aghast at first when I noticed that the Palazzo in Vegas didn't include WiFi into the $350/night charge, although a $20 slipped to the front desk clerk got that waived along with a view upgrade.
