Marriage won't make you happy.

Before all the marriage-bashers get in here and start claiming that this proves their point, I'd just like to say that it ought to be bloody obvious to anyone with a brain that if you're not happy on your own, then you won't be happy in a relationship.

Tell that to my wealthy stripper girlfriends, we're all very happy now.

Yeah - I'd always heard that married people were happiest followed by single, followed by divorce. Not sure if this study and what I'd heard are getting at the same thing.

I think many people will tell you that marriage has made them happier and claiming that in fact does make it so.

I think that the problem has been people assuming that being married is what makes the people happy. My thought is that happy people are more likely to marry.

Or maybe unhappy people are more likely to marry because they think it will make them happy.

Who ever came up with the phrase "happily married" anyway? I know I would have a tough time without my wife, but I'd survive. I can't say I am unhappy, more like.... numb.

The thing is, there's lots of things we don't know about the research which may have impacted how people perceive their life satisfaction. Things like economic factors, the demographics of those interviewed, etc.

all this says is if you're unhappy before marriage, you're still going to be unhappy after.

if you have relationship problems, don't get married.

If you're happy, your future is bright.

I think this article suggests that:

1. There is no difference between marriage, and shacking up with someone while having premarital sex
2. Marriage is not meant to be some "high"

Marriage would be a much more enjoyable experience if people wouldn't live together before getting married, wouldn't have sex before getting married, and would get married out of committment of love (after spending many years together finding out about each other). Marriage is cheapened now because it's just a social token. It's even more cheapened now because divorce is also a common norm.

hahahaha Nice article!

Marriage is what you make it. (Guess what, that's the same as life!) If you put more into it, then you'll get more out of it.

I'm very happy being married right now. At least very satisfied. I was not satisfied when I was single dating no one. I was very happy when I was dating my wife, but I am just as happy being married to her.

THe point to marriag difficulties is that you have not one person's problems but two.

Marriage does not make life easier. That is plain to see.

Anyone who thinks that getting married will solve any inter-relational issue be it between themselves or their respecgtive families is on crack.

I used to be on crack.

But what marriage is is a committment, and if you can honor that commitment it's worht the work.

BTW.
Happiness isn't a state. It's a choice. (Old saying, but I like it)

All that article says is that marriage doesn't suddenly change your life/outlook.
If you're sad, you stay sad, if you're happy you stay happy.

WELL DUH!!!!
