Let's go back to the point of the story.
People who are married tend to vote Republican, while single people tend to vote Democratic.

That means that getting married causes people to become more conservative. (i.e. Republican)

I would explain the study as simply case in point that liberals are less likely to tie themselves down like that. Young people being more liberal may also factor into this. In this case, does the drop in marriage indicate a rise in liberal views?

I personally tend to believe that if it wasn?t for the bible belt, views such as my own would be considered a rarity.
