Under an obscure Texas law, their marriage was not officially valid until publicly announced, and these blog posts constituted the announcement.

also, quoting the bride: The state of Texas has a little known law governing "informal marriage". For a marriage to be legal, we must publicly declare that we consider each other as spouses and this fact be known to other residents of the state of Texas. To indicate that they don't feel like they should have to obey each other... as a sort of protest. That was my take on it.
