Kingpin explained why smoking isn't bad.

[On smoking]

Ishmael: You really should try to quit, Mr. Munson. They say it's bad for your heart, your lungs. It quickens the aging process.

Roy: Is that right. Who's done more research on the subject than the good people at the American Tobacco Industry? They say it's harmless. Why would they lie? If you're dead, you can't smoke.

Don't kid yourself. The last years of your life are almost always miserable. My grandfather had Alzheimers before eventually dying with pneumonia. People think that because they didn't smoke or eat unhealthy, old age will be sunshine and unicorn farts. Good luck with that.

I think you're kidding yourself by insinuating he wasn't being specific. Yes aging sucks and can be miserable, no one here has submitted otherwise, but it will definitely suck more with a bad case of COPD involved. I got to watch my father deal with it for about 10 years or so, until he died last summer.

There are many ailments and complaints associated with aging that people understand and accept. Being able to breathe enough to complete a short row of stairs without coughing yourself into unconsciousness is a little more noteworthy and certainly worth avoiding if you can. Quality of life isn't a black and white scenario, sometimes people can deal with the gray parts and keep smiling until their gig is up.

 My Father-In-Law is in his late 70s and he is in great shape, enjoying life, playing golf, traveling. He never smoked a day in his life and has always been active. We should all be so lucky to age as well as him.

I honestly don't know why anyone would smoke cigarettes.

So, clearly, cigarettes are life prolonging! That must be why they're so expensive. :hmm:

He seems to have had a full life, at least. Lots of kids, grandkids, and great grandkids, and lived longer than expected.

Two grandparents smoked, lived well into their 90s before finally dying.
