marks on screen on my lcd tv

Perhaps my kids did something like smash their cars on the screen but it looks like someone took a silver sharpie to it, but it only appears when the screen is on. When the screen is off (black), there appears to be no scratches or impact damage on the surface. What and why is this? And is it fixable? Yes it's across all channels and persists after on/off. It's also there when I switch to another source (DVI, Component, etc.).

Looks like impact damage to me. I have an LCD at work that fell over and impacted the screen and it has marks like that also. Unfixable.

today a long line perfectly horizontal appeared from the right mark straight to the right edge. I'm talking a perfectly straight line so it's not done by any one of us and we have no pets. Googling comes up with nothing... strange this hasn't been experienced by others with an LCD...

Not fixable. I assume it's out of warranty or RMAing would have been your first choice. You can try finding a replacement panel if you think you can repair it yourself, but usually that costs as much as a new tv.
