China had it's biggest loss in 10 years I thin I read.

AS for the US, I have not seen this in a long time. I'm not even sure if it was ever this bad over one day in 2000/2001.

Watch the news, I'm sure it will be mentioned.

I'm blaming Jim Cramer for this! He's been hitting that "BUY BUY BUY!" button a bit too much lately :)

As someone else mentioned, this sort of thing happens. It's not like the market steadily raises indefinitely. That doesn't mean stock 30 years from now isn't going to be worth a lot more than it is now.

Bam! Right at -400. I didn't expect quite that! :p

It's too bad I'm at work and wasn't able to make any active orders today (just riding at my longs, which are doing just fine despite today, the market is already up so much in the past year).

edit: doh! -415. Yahoo was lagging.

Just imagine how stressed stock brokers must be right now as they read through the roll of ticker tape.

stock brokers are loving it. they make commission on the sale and then again when the idiots who sold rebuy next month.

I've only watched him once last summer at home through flipping of channels...School doesn't carry the channel. We carry Bloomberg TV though.
What's his record like compared to S&P500/Dow/your average Wallstreet stock investor/manager?

all time biggest one-day point drop was the next market day after 9/11, at ~685. looks like today was shaping up to be in black monday's range, but pulled back.

bonds are a 'safe' investment, so when the stock market looks uncertain people pour into the bond market, driving up the price of bonds (which drives the yield down)

I checked my IRA and 2 401K's and all are fine with less than a 1% drop for the day.

Suprised to see some funds up!
