From DVDFile:

Alright, alright, here it is! Since we probably get more email on Lord of the Rings these days than Star Wars or Indiana Jones, if you just can't wait to find out what New Line's plans are for the Lord of the Rings DVD release(s), well, you don't have much longer to wait. As is the case these days with big releases, we just received an announcement of... the announcement. On Tuesday, March 26, New Line will be prepping the world for the new Lord of the Rings DVD and VHS releases, and needless to say, it's gonna be huge! So check back on March 26 for the big news...

Yeah it's a nice SVCD but I have this LOTR documentary on DVD that has scenes from the movie and the extra detail in the DVD is pretty substantial...the picture is a lot better. Not to mention 5.1 sound.

the august release will not have the extra 30mins, but the SE in november will. PJ has already done the cut for it.

Unfortunately. :(:(:(

I didn't read any LOTR threads on Anand so that I wouldn't read any spoilers. When I found out that it just wasn't going to be possible to see it in the theatre, I moped for weeks. :(:(

In a store :)
Strange that National Geographic did this documentary. I personaly would love if they released at least a 4cd package with all the movies each on 1 cd and then a 1 cd documentary cd. ... and that the movie versions would be the extra extra long ones :p

we can all dream

it's a documentary focused more on Tolkien on not the movies.
The SEs will definitely have massive documentaries on the movies. They hired a crew to film behind the scenes and they filmed over 800 hours of footage. PJ loves making SEs...I can't see any documentary he puts out to be less than an hour or two (per film!)

Don't despair, you may get another chance. New Line is planning a big push to coincide with the Oscars so Mar. 22nd they will be upping the number of theaters to near 2,000 (from its current level of 1200). The trailer for the next movie, The Two Towers, will be added the following weekend (3/29).
