I'm wondering if he knows his theory I think he does because he writes crazy stuff. Not sure though. I guess Slash writes crazy stuff but he doesn't know anything.

Can't say I've heard any Alter Bridge, but I've read that he took lessons and did a lot of woodshedding after Creed broke up, so I figure he knows some theory. I was impressed that somebody who'd had that level of success would take the initiative to get better and really work at it.

Maybe I should check out some of his newer stuff...

writing crazy stuff often indicates the opposite - that the composer has no training.

either way, i really dislike Tremonti's style and think his skills are overrated.

I could agree that his skills are over rated. Personally I've always been a guitarist that creates atmosphere rather than write an insane solo of random notes and wah.
