And by "Black Rock" I mean baseball.

The Bird had a short but storied major league career.

I guess the word is now that one his jacks slipped and the truck fell on him.

Do people realize just how amazing the his story was? Undrafted free agent walk-on, like someone who just walks in off the street, goes 19-9, including an 11 inning game as a rookie, starts the All Star game, and is on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Let's see that happen again.

I guess not. 🙁

never heard of him till he died, and while baseball not in my top 3 sports, I'd say I'm an above average sports fan.

How old are you - you must be early 30s (or younger). I'm 41 and I remember that magical summer very well. I wasn't a Tigers fan but he watching him pitch was a 'must see' event, especially since baseball didn't have widespread TV coverage then.
