Does making the "background check" a Federal law stop criminals from getting a gun? or does it just cost law abiding citizens money and make it difficult for them to exercise their right? Are you OK for a "background check" before we allow people to vote? and make them pay for it?

Lol! Does it stop criminals from getting a gun? Do any laws stop criminals from committing crimes? Laws are meant to deter acts from happening not stop them because stopping anything is impossible but I'm sure it won't STOP you from setting such ridiculous standards.

As to your second point, if you understood the constitution and how laws work you would realize what you are suggesting is a poll tax and is illegal. Don't like it? Want to add restrictions? Then go through the process of changing the law like everyone else.

Are you trying to argue this was an illegal straw purchase because he planned to turn the gun over to law enforcement? You'd need a god damn magnifying glass to grasp that straw.

Agreed. He was not "acquiring the firearm on behalf of another person", so he didn't violate the 4473...

But what a stupid way to prove a point...

Then go through the process of changing the 2nd Amendment like everyone else should.

When you buy a weapon on the federal form you have to state who it is being purchased for. If he didn't state the police department he did in fact break the law.

So is it illegal to turn over a weapon to the police department?

He was buying it for himself to be used as a political prop when he turns it over to local law enforcement, all of which is perfectly legal. The fact that anyone is even reporting on this is just ridiculous, as all you're doing is helping spread a story that none of us would have ever heard had the lunatic fringe of the gun movement not gone apeshit trying to call someone a hypocrite prematurely. Now that that angle has failed, you're going with felon? That's beyond stupid. It's not like he's buying it for the police as a Christmas present; it's a symbolic gesture about disarmament. It's political posturing by both sides and it's not helping either side look intelligent.

Uh what? I'm pretty sure that's exactly what's happening.

Thanks for playing!

Sure, once they get two-thirds of both the House of Representatives and the Senate followed by a ratification of three-fourths of the various state legislatures.

This. They cannot modify the amendment itself. They can try to redefine, though.

Had you bothered to include the whole quote you would have seen what my point was.

I read the whole post. Your point is still not valid. THe only thing a "no guns in schools" law does is stop me from doing it as a law abiding citizen. Doesn't stop someone intent on killing. No current reform on the table will have any tangible POSITIVE effect.

He's just ignorant. Unless he's a convicted felon, then him buying a semi-auto rifle in no way supports his premise of lax rules and background checks.

But maybe he already named the gun "Precious" and is convinced that holding it will give him evil superpowers any moment now.
