Mario Kart tournament, how to set up??

So we're having an old-school MK64 tourney in a few hours in our apt building..and it'll sort of be a 4th floor vs. 3rd floor type of thing, although it'll probably be a mostly individual honors thing, but I have no idea how to set it up in terms of courses, how many people should play at the same time, and everything else.

Each floor should have about 6 people, giving us 12 total..and there are 4 controllers..

Have people play each other and if you don't lose you win.

Do 2 players per game. Use one of these. Have each game consist of the special cup plus an optional tiebreaker or something.
