Story:

A normal day on campus for most students consists of the usually uneventful task of walking between classes. As of late, however, this task has been brightened by "Mario Murals." These are a collection of chalk drawings on the sides of Barnard, Garinger, Rowe Art and a wall outside Robinson Hall.

The drawings are all of characters from the Super Mario series of video games from Nintendo. The most interesting thing about these is each is an exact, scale drawing of the sprites from the games in which each brick on the wall is a single pixel in the sprite. The first of the six murals, a chalk drawing of a Bob-Boom, can be found in the breezeway between Barnard and Macy. The next, a Power Mushroom is on the side of Garinger. There are two murals on Rowe Art and one near Robinson.

According to campus police, there has not been any calls or complaints about the chalk drawings. Facilities plans on washing them off the sides of the buildings as soon as possible.

When contacted about the chak drawings on the Rowe Arts building Roy Strassburg, Department chair said he didn't condone the drawings. " I condone pulic art and support its presence on campus, but not when it pops up as a surprise," Strassburg said. "There is a procedure for public art that comes out of the art department usually through a sculpture or installation class." "We work with facility management to define a space on campus where work is maintained for a set time," said strassburg. "I am just a scurious as anyone else as to where these chalk drawings came from."
