What the hell does anyone need an assault rifle for?

That's the equivilent of banning large cars & trucks hoping it will stop DWI deaths. The vehicle aint the problem, just like the gun isn't the problem. Nobody ever went and killed people just because they had access to a 30 round magazine rather than a 10 round.

Why should he suffer the consequences of breaking an unjust law? A law that violates his rights?

And of course all right-wingers who believe as you do also believe that a physician who aborts a third-trimester fetus with Tay-Sachs disease in a state that has outlawed third-trimester abortions should never suffer the consequences of breaking such an unjust law.

The fact that your making ASSumptions about me and preferring your talking points suggests I should ignore you. I dont talk about abortion, check my posts and I very rarely talk about it.

I do. Forcing a child to grow up with extreme disabilities or mental or health issues is cruel and selfish. If I ever get into an accident and end up drooling into a cup and unable to end my own missery please put a bullet in my head.

<- conservative but atheist and support equal rights etc

Oh wait I guess they call that libertarian, all the good parts of conservatives without the BS.

The only issue with abortion is the "equal rights" and protecting "life liberty and property" role of the government. However when a clump of cells turns into an individual is a grey area, and like any grey area with no unanimous universal consensus its best left to the individual to decide... well...individually. If you oppose abortion...don't get one :awe:

The difference is I don't care about abortion laws compared to gun laws. If someone wants to secretly have an abortion by accidentally falling down the stairs or go to a place where it's legal that's an easy law to not comply with and not have consequences. If a gun I want is banned and no longer sold, I can't ever buy it again. If I did somehow manage to get one illegally I can't shoot it without risk of being observed or reported, and its always in my possession were I have to live in constant fear of being caught with it. Abortion illegal? Take care of it on your vacation to Mexico and keep your mouth shut, and never worry about it again.

Many laws are unjust, I just don't worry about the ones that can be circumvented with no consequences.

No but more people voted for her than against her. Sorry, you aren't the king, the majority rules.

Perhaps, but the majority wasn't informed that she supported usurpation of constitutional rights, and no I'm not even talking guns.

He was only an E-4 after 8 years? That either means he was one sorry ass marine or he wasn't too good at following military law either.

Because in this country we have the right to arm bears; when the grizzlies are bearing down on you with their assault rifles, you'd better have one too.

because they are fun to shoot? PLUS ITS NONE OF YOUR FUCKING BUSINESS WHAT GUN I HAVE.

Kudos to the marine. his said exactly what my feelings are.

I will not have some woman who proclaims the evil of an inanimate object, yet carries one, tell me I may not have one.

I am not your subject. I am not your servant. I am not your peasant. I am the person whom you serve.

Every so often you make a post that makes sense and is a well put together argument. See conservatives, this is the RIGHT way to make a point.

So then if the majority disapproves then she will be voted out and the law will be repealed or changed.

No one senator or congressman has the power to usurp the constitution.

Is it though? The argument against large capacity magazines isn't that they stop murder number one, but maybe that they stop murder number eleven.

I find it funny that registration and identification are required for something in the Bill of Rights, but that when we try to enforce registration and identification for something like driving or voting, it's racist.

Our country is so full of double standards and bullshit, it's just plain sad. We're so fucked.

I read an article recently that I thought was very on point. Why the fetishization of the second amendment but not the others? Of all the amendments that guarantee personal liberties, having to overthrow the government with guns is absolutely the least likely to happen.

Many of the same people who so fervently defend the second amendment were fine with warrantless wiretapping in the name of fighting terrorism, were down with indefinite detention, etc, etc. Those are freedoms the government might abridge EVERY DAY, yet I see no similar level of outrage from these people. Why?

Why is that funny? Are you attempting to equate the two? If so why and on what grounds?

Is it though? The argument against large capacity magazines isn't that they stop murder number one, but maybe that they stop murder number eleven.

Except that there are millions of them in existence already and there's nothing to stop the criminal from, I don't know, carrying two guns.

In fact, using your logic, one could make the claim that banning large capacity magazines INCREASES the likelihood that murder number eleven happens. It's far more likely that one gun with a 20+ round magazine jams and becomes useless than two guns each with 10 round magazines would both jam and become useless.

If someone is hellbent on killing people, he's going to figure out a way. Banning guns or high capacity magazines isn't going to stop that. He'll use poisoned darts instead. Or a tazer and samurai sword. Or a bomb.

Just don't turn the victims of these tragic events into martyrs for your own ideologies. It's not fair to them and it's not fair to the rest of us law abiding citizens.

While I agree with the sentiment, he must not have been much of a marine to have spent 8 years in the service and left a corporal.
That has nothing to do with nothing......so why bring it up...it is a non issue!

I'm attempting to point out that we require verification for things which are supposed to be basic, inalienable Rights, but not for things which are luxuries which are administered, regulated, and protected by laws.

As you liberals are so fond of telling us, the Constitution applies to all current residents of the US, citizen or not.

Why is it the case that registration and identification should be required for the 2nd Amendment, but not for the 14th? And why for those basic rights and not for voting?

It's a double-standard, and it's bullshit.

Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and say that those reasons aren't good enough anymore.

Yea, and I'm going to say that's your opinion. If you want to degrade and redefine your Constitutional rights then have a nut....don't tell others to do the same.

The whole gun ban or control argument is stupid as shit and where does it stop? Maybe the only thing an American citizen can own is a musket from 1780 or before? Are we all going to have to use hard rubber hammers because so many people are killed with framing hammers (which is true btw). Maybe the vehicle I drive is too large as well. The government and career politicians like Feinsein should legislate that too? ..........Fuck her.

This Marine's statement about covers it:

You already have to register to vote, that was never the issue. The issue was requiring people to have government ID's AND REQUIRING THEM TO PAY FOR IT, which constitutes a poll tax which is against the constitution.

I don't know and it baffles me too. The most dangerous type of citizen to our government in this country isn't a well armed one, it's a well informed voting one. Tyranny in a democracy doesn't happen unless the people vote for it to happen.
