Marine Shelves Iraq Song

People, no matter how high your opinion of yourselves, this is one sick country.

Producer: Marine Shelves Iraq Song

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - A Marine who wrote and performed a song about killing members of an Iraqi family has temporarily shelved the tune, a record producer said Monday.

Cpl. Joshua Belile planned to record "Hadji Girl" with Hits Music Studios, and the conservative talk program "The Mike Church Show" planned to be the first to air it, said Jimm Mosher, co-owner of the North Carolina studio. But the 23-year-old Iraq veteran nixed the plans late last week, he said.

"We got a call from him and he just said he couldn't do the recording at this time," Mosher said. "I was led to believe that he had it from high command that he wasn't to record the song."

Neither Belile nor the Marines returned phone messages Monday evening.

"Hadji Girl" surfaced in a four-minute video on the Internet. In the clip, Belile sings about a Marine who falls in love with an Iraqi woman and then encounters hostility from her family. Relatives kill the woman, prompting the Marine to gun down the family members.

An anonymous person posted the recording on the Web site YouTube, but it has since been removed.

Belile has said his song was intended as a joke.

He did not violate military law, Marine officials said last week. Belile's commanders will handle the matter administratively, which can include informal counseling about his actions.

Belile, assigned to North Carolina's Marine Corps Air Station New River, has said he believes the Marine Corps handled his case fairly.

Mosher said Belile still plans to record the song. Belile has said he will leave the military when his five-year enlistment ends in October 2007.

"We're wanting to record and produce it," Mosher said. "I think it tells a great story."

Yeah. Well the article posted by the op isnt exactly right. The bolded part is incorrect. The song is about a marine led into a trap by an insurgent female. She is accidenatlly killed by her murderous brother and father who also kill the girls sister while shooting at the marine( If I remember correctly). Themarine then kills the brother and father in self defense.

Thats probably why he was permabanned under a different name.

Yeah from what I hear it goes like this:

He's under fire from insurgents and through the dust he sees his Hadji girl

She invites him home/lures him into a trap

The brother and dad shoot at him but end up killing the girl

He kills the bother and father

It's an (actually pretty funny) tongue and cheek song by a guy in the mix. Leave him alone.

Hey BBond, why not stop telling yourself (and all of us) how bad this country is (no wonder you're unhappy/unsuccessful right? In a country this bad no wonder, its not your fault) and start making your life better.

Maybe this will help some here understand why this marine wrote and played that song.

These songs served as a strategy for survival, as a means of unit bonding and definition, as entertainment, and as a way of expressing emotion. All of the traditional themes of military folksong can be found in these songs: praise of the great leader, celebration of heroic deeds, laments for the death of comrades, disparagement of other units, and complaints about incompetent officers and vainglorious rear-echelon personnel . Like soldiers from time immemorial they sang of epic drinking bouts and encounters with exotic young women.

SONGS OF AMERICANS IN THE VIETNAM WAR

Imagine what would happen to a serviceperson today singing a song similar to this one

If the descriptions of the song you guys give are correct then it doesn't sound like a big deal

I think he decided to pull it because of the recent tragic murders of the raped girl and her family ..

War and killing are never good... so sad that mr boosh and the neocons find it so easy to send others children off to die when they weren't ever willing to do the same in the past

I was only asking because I believe BBond's ban was before your account was created (and because in many respects your posts are very reminiscent of a particular twice-banned poster). Forgive me if I was wrong.

People have been stating it for quile a while here. It's not like it's a secret nugget of knowledge people keep secret amongst an elite few. People can easily pick it up along with other forum history.

As for if he is banned member, I have no idea nor do I care.

Hadji Girl

I was out in the sands of Iraq
And we were under attack
And I, well, I didn?t know where to go.

And the first thing that I could see was
Everybody?s favorite Burger King
So I threw open the door and I hit the floor.

Then suddenly to my surprise
I looked up and I saw her eyes
And I knew it was love at first sight.

And she said?
Durka Durka Mohammed Jihad
Sherpa Sherpa Bak Allah
Hadji girl, I can?t understand what you?re saying.

And she said?
Durka Durka Mohammed Jihad
Sherpa Sherpa Bak Allah
Hadji girl, I love you anyway.

Then she said that she wanted me to see.
She wanted me to go meet her family
But I, well, I couldn?t figure out how to say no.

Cause I don?t speak Arabic.

So, she took me down an old dirt trail.
And she pulled up to a side shanty
And she threw open the door and I hit the floor.

Cause her brother and her father shouted?
Durka Durka Mohammed Jihad
Sherpa Sherpa Bak Allah
They pulled out their AKs so I could see

And they said?
Durka Durka Mohammed Jihad
Sherpa Sherpa Bak Allah
So I grabbed her little sister, and pulled her in front of me.

As the bullets began to fly
The blood sprayed from between her eyes
And then I laughed maniacally

Then I hid behind the TV
And I locked and loaded my M-16
And I blew those little f*ckers to eternity.

And I said?
Durka Durka Mohammed Jihad
Sherpa Sherpa Bak Allah
They should have known they were f*ckin? with a Marine.

So we here we have; an ethnic slur repeated multiple times, stereotyping of Arabic culture combined with mockery of Arabic language, the use of a child as human shield, and maniacal laughter at the death of that child. Anyone signing or complementing that song clearly has no respect for the people we claim to be trying to help.

The guy is probably just blowing off steam man, because these guys have to deal with locals that may be friendly... or may try to kill them and their friends. The marines isn't the Starbucks coffee house of political correct asseating circle-jerking theoretical mid-brow masturbation. As long as he's doing his duty properly, and things don't get too far out of hand with contempt for the locals, let him alone.

I'm not taking issue with this to be PC, but rather because I want to see the hostilities resolved. Crossing our fingers and hoping people don't go too far isn't enough. Until we learn put into action only those solders who are both able and willing to help, and promptly take out of the fight any who demonstrate lapses in mentality which might lead them to do otherwise; we will continue to have solders torturing, raping, killing, along with all the lesser offenses which encourage civilians to join the insurgency. That will only serve to prolong this conflict even further and I don't want that; I want us to buck up on the competence so we can get the job done right and bring our boys home.

The point is, anyone can accuse anyone else of being a "prema-banned" member of a forum, especially fairly NEW members such as yourself.

I think that any American soldier in Iraq who makes such vile trash as the blatantly racist "Hadji Girl" is in name as well as content would have a very hard time producing his garbage -- as can readily be seen by the military command stopping this idiot from doing just that -- and especially in light of recent events -- at least the recent events we know of. Truth is, such events have been occuring since day one of bush's UNPROVOKED aggression against Iraq.

As for the misanthropes who continually suggest that I harbor some hatred for America, just when if ever will you figure this out? I love America. I hate what people like you are enabling and allowing people like the fascists who have taken over our government to do to the country I love.

But they didn't invade and occupy our country, kill our families, rape and murder our women. What kind of songs would you sing about them if they had?

Yeah they only did that to Kuwait. I have no love for the Iraqi's. I'm not against the war because we are killing them (hey they are doing a better job at it than we are), I'm against it because it was a stupid mistake which is making things worse and our soldiers are paying a heavy price for it.

As long as you're going to be a pinko-commie wuss that doesn't support the brave effort of out great President, you might as well work up at least a mild respect for the fact that Iraqis, despite the horrors that went in to creating them in their present form, are at root as human as we. I mean, hell, if you're in for a penny go in for a pound.

I imagine the average Iraqi is very similar to the average American. Unfortunately the average Iraqi insurgent is about as human as the average Klan member.
