Toys For Tots is one of the most effective charities in America, if you want to give something this year, this is the place to do it. When most charities are wasting money on huge overhead costs, the Marine reserve takes on toy distribution like a well oiled machine, it is consistently rated one of the most effective charities by charitable watch dog groups. We rely heavily on the work of Active, Reserve and retired Marines, as well as thousands of volunteers. Usually the only money we spend is on gas for trucks, because we are limited in the amount of government supplied gas we can use, the rest of the money is pure toys. Use the link above to find events and drop off locations in your area.

U.S. MARINE CORPS RESERVE TOYS FOR TOTS PROGRAM

MISSION:
The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.

GOAL: The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a shiny new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders.

OBJECTIVES: The objectives of Toys for Tots are to help needy children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of one of our nation's most valuable natural resources - our children; to unite all members of local communities in a common cause for three months each year during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign; and to contribute to better communities in the future.

ACTIVITIES: The principal Toys for Tots activities which take place each year are the collection and distribution of toys in the communities in which a Marine Corps Reserve Unit is located and in the communities without a Reserve Unit that has a Marine Corps League Detachment or group of men and women, generally veteran Marines, authorized by Marine Toys for Tots Foundation to conduct a local Toys for Tots campaign. Local Toys for Tots Campaign Coordinators conduct an array of activities throughout the year, which include golf tournaments, foot races, bicycle races and other purely voluntary events designed to increase interest in Toys for Tots, and concurrently generate toy and monetary donations.

Charity I believe in, the marines, and christmas however I do not. Either way, glad to see Marines doing something else other than what they are trained to do. Don't take my wording the wrong way, the toys for tots is a great program.

A lot of Motorcycle Clubs like the VoVMC and the HAMC have annual Toy Runs too. It doesn't matter who you give your toys too as long as you give them

That's more or less my point too. Although I think we should do this stuff year round, as not everyone gives a shiat about Xmas, Kwanzaa, Hannukah, Ramadan, Winter Solstice, or whatever other marketing schemes they've come up with.

The Angel Tree is a wonderful program. I have participated in that the last few years. And I always end up getting more than the kids are needing (usually only clothes are listed...kids need toys at Christmas :) )

With all the food-bank type charities and the like, it's nice that once a year you can give a little extra to a cause for no reason except to put a smile on children's faces 9and their parents too!).

Here's my plug for the Torontonians in the crowd - The Toronto Star Santa Clause fund distributes age-appropriate gift boxes to children of poor families in Toronto (maybe the GTA, I'm not sure). As with all Toronto Star charities (IIRC, and I'm pretty sure I do), the Star's contribution is to cover absolutely all administrative costs of the program, so every penny donated goes directly to purchasing gifts.

I've both donated and volunteered delivering gifts, and this is definitely a charity that's worth your time, money and effort.

Not to thread crap, but if you drop something off, make sure you do it somewhere that the dropbox is beign watched over. A lot of stores seem to stick the box out of the way where somebody walking by will gladly help themselves (and even worse, the Kmart in town had the entire box stolen last year)

toys for tots, angel tree, and canned food drives are the charities I give most too.

we have about 135 employees here and we just got a toys for tots box est up that the marines will come pick up.

For thanksgiving , our office gave about 2000+ items to the local food bank.

I think these types of charities always get much better participation.

Because even the poorer folks can aford a cheap toy or two or some cans of food to donate and they too can feel they help in their own way.

this actually happens a lot, pretty lame i know. but as it turns out a good number of boxes have items stolen out of them every year. usually its the boxes people or stores put out on thier own. Our own events have much tighter security.

Whatever you believe in or don't believe in, just give a little joy to the children during the holidays.

This is an awsome program and is well worth every dime I have spent.
I would like to add that it is not only the reserve Marines, I am on active duty and have collected toys for 11 years now. We all share in drive to bring happiness to the children.........

Great post "Train"..........

Does toys for tots accept used toys. I've got a ton of stuff that my daughter doesn't play with. If not, then I'll just give them away to customers that come to my store.

Yes we will pick up nationwide, call your local contact and let him/her know.

No, sorry we cannot accept used toys, only new, unopened toys. There is a reason for this, I just cant remember what it is.
